    Hey folks
I was wondering if it is possible to transfer data to, and from my laptop (from my desktop PC) through a USB cable, or something similar. At the moment I only have a standard router which doesnt have that extra cable port that I need, but if USB has the ability, I might just stick with that anyway.

    Thanks in advance :)

I knew there was a way by usb, but i cant find it anywhere..

what you can do, however, is get a network hub, connect that to your router, and you have maybe five extra ports...

Its impossible to do it through a regular USB cable. They have special usb cabels called USB Data Transfer Bridge Cable - here is one for $15 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16800996012

If it is something that you are going to continuesly do then you should definetly get a SWITCH not a HUB a switch is faster and does the job better. Also you could look into using a crossover cable which would get the job done just like the USB Cable.

Would USB be slower than transferring over a network?

    Thanks for the help :)

Another quick question though, would I need any special software or any special requirements to use this bridge cable, or would it just be a plug and play type of thing?

For most home user's USB would actually be faster.
