That is correct, we will not be setting up an actual cyber cafe. Instead, we will be having lans it community halls, entertainment centres ect.
It's not going to be a onetime thing. We're going to do maybe one a week during the holidays.

People paying upfront before they even show up = possible scam. Pay at the door.

allow starcraft! There will be a lot of very good gamers who will attend. For east coast though... or Southern Cali. Either Southern Cali or Washington D.C. would be best area for Starcraft players.

Then you don't know what a fun LAN is ;)
What should we do if someone brings modded xbox's?
Apparently people who have modded xbox's can edit levels and code to do with games to give them advantages. This is not something we want if we're going to be offering cash prizes and people are cheating. Ideas?

For paying in advance, I also think that you should probably use a service like PayPal for the safe delivery of munies :P

About the modded Xbox's, I'm really not sure how to deal with that one. You probably should look online for methods of finding whether an Xbox is modded or not, and check them all before the tournament starts. If someone is caught bringing a modded Xbox, maybe they aren't allowed to play in the tournament, thus wasting their entry fee. As long as the consequences are made clear, people should be discouraged from bringing altered Xbox's.

For the registration and organisation, I reccomend you use Autonomous Lan Party. Me and some friends run a LAN party once a month in my town, and ALP makes it so much easier to get organised. Set it up on a PC, then as people are coming in Sign them in on ALP. There are loads of features, but for an Xbox LAn you probably wouldn't use them all (like benchmarking contests, shoutbox, etc).
