Ok guys, me and my mate are starting up our own company which organises commercial LAN tournaments around my local area. The whole thing is going to be legit and we'll be giving out Cash prizes and the like for people who win in certain events of the tournament. Of course there is an entry fee, too pay for electricity, cash prizes, renting places, and organising everything.
The problem is though, that we're having a hard time figuring out how we would like to register everyone.
Basically we want people to register on our site with their gamertag and the rest of their information. We'll then take this stuff and put it into a list of people that are coming. How would you guys advise that we go about this?

Secondly, the fee for entry to the event, we'd like to secure the payment from people before the actual event (Bank deposit, ideas anyone?) so that it is ensured that we get everyone that says they are coming. This way, if people pull out and don't tell anyone then we'll be one person short and someone else could have taken their position.

So, do you guys have any ideas that you'd like to share?
All help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks guys.

  2. the only way i can think is if you take half their entry as a deposit to make sure they come...

but sounds like a great idea man. my friend is trying to organise a LAN party, ill ask what he is doing...

Lol, i think that's taking it a bit too far, lol. I'd really just like to keep it simple, unless of course it has to be made difficult but i'm sure there would be a simple way to do this.

Bump? Anyone else have any ideas?

EDIT: I've also been searching the net for ages, both browsing LAN sites and looking for registration scripts for people to submit their info. I came across a site with a registration system that i like a hell of a lot.

So this is the site Registration. This is the same thing i'd like (except with my own options).

Then once you submit your information, it goes to this page. I'm not sure if it automatically gets submitted to that page, or someone from the site manually adds it. Anyway i'd like it to automatically submit information straight to the page (what i specify) and over to the far right i want to have it saying whether they have payed or not (which i manually add in).

Any ideas how i would make that registration page (that's my main goal) and have it automatically submit specific text to the list page?

    Thanks guys

A buddy of mine has his own business doing just that. Well...it's similar anyway. He owns a cyber cafe with about 200 machines all hooked up to a huge network, so yeah I guess there's lots of LANing going on there. I'll talk to him about it and see what kind of constructiveness I can offer to you.

    First off

Where are you planning to do this?

    What Games will be played?

Depending on the games and location, you can raise or lower the registration fee.

Some Local PC Cafe's will be willing to host it, and if you get enough people, I'm sure you can get RedBull and other companies to help you out.

Well, I do not know much about operating my own LAN center. But I would say that you can use Paypal/CreditCard online to pay. Encourage people to bring their friends. Collect money before the tournament at the story too.

What you also need to do is make sure the store is in a good location. I used to work in a Cyber Cafe and we lost 60,000 dollars a year, because of its location.

Also, have insurance/warranties on all of your stuff.
Then get sponsored by Red Bull/Monster/Bawls :). And make some extra money of the vending machines.

Make sure to have advertisements, and you need to get the word around. If you have friends that still go to school, get them to give out flyers. Anything you can do to get people.

I don't have much to say, but I believe he is talking about a one time tournament, not setting up a store (or Cyber Cafe.) Am I wrong?
