ok heres the deal, i have a 114gb hdd and i dont have much on it, a few games, music which is around 60gb total, and atm i have 19gb free and my pc is running really slow cuz of it (i think). so 35gb might be ghost data, is there a program or something that deletes ghost data? or is formatting the only option here? thx
a virus is known where it can fill up your hard drive with anonymous data, therefore slowing your pc down. before formatting, though, try the following: 1. run CCleaner, google it. that can get rid of temporary files, and other stufff un-needed. 2. go to start->run type msconfig and press enter. go to the sartup tab. uncheck anything that you dont need to startup, or you don't know what it is. btw, how much ram do you have?
i did a virus scan and it didnt find anything, i used ccleaner earlier and freed like 500mb. and i have 1gb of ram
hm..What if the partition made is only 79 odd GB [60+19] Possibility - Does it say 79GB approx in My Computer? If so I think it might have partitioned only 79GB instead of the full 114 You have any partitions btw? DarkStar
i heard something about windows not detecting full HDD spaces under a certain ammount, i have the same prob atm but mines with a 200gb HDD so i havent done anything about it yet as the 130gb it does pick up is fine for the time being.
try <a href=\'http://www.webroot.com/consumer/downloads/\' target=\'_blank\'>Window Washer</a> it should help u free up some more of your HDD
Ye windows didnt detecct all of mine as well so went into Control Panel > Admin tools > Computer mangement > Storage > Disk Management and check through there of whats happening You can also format through there as well if you got e xtra space available if it lets you - Hence it will make a new partition and not add it on DarkStar
http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/ My favorite file for that. Also, go through your old files to see what you dont need, especially program files of applications you've deleted.
