Why is it a waste of time? Can somebody explain that one to me? I've heard the "OMG OMG OMG BUSH WANTS OIL AND IS MURDERING FOR IT AND CHENEY IS CORRUPT AND LETTING HALIBURTON HAVE ALL THE MONEY"-response one too many times. How so? Cheney was the CEO of Haliburton SIX YEARS AGO. Apparently, that's another conspiracy for you anti-war nuts.

What does Haliburton do? They support the troops with services such as food and building camps. Newsflash, people: they've been to Kosovo, Iraq (the first time around), and just about everywhere else US servicemen and women have been since the company was formed. They're contractors. That's what they do.

And if we're in Iraq for oil, why am I paying $2.59 a gallon down the road? I remember pre-9/11, before this whole oil crusade started, I was paying less than $2.00 a gallon. May not seem like much, but multiply that by 25 and you'll see how expensive it can get. I've seen porn sites give year-long memberships for cheaper than I pay a week in gas.

Saddam didn't need to be in power. Remember 1991, when he invaded Kuwait? What about a few years earlier when he gassed both Iran AND the Kurds up north? We should've finished the job back in 1991; we wouldn't be losing troops over there right now, and he'd be rotting in some UN prison for war criminals. Hell, if we did it then, we wouldn't have half the trouble with government that we do now.

Do I agree with certain policies that we've implemented, such as the no-Ba'ath party members in government? No. Things like that can and will screw up the country. Right now you've got a bunch of religious fundamentalists screaming for an Islamic Iraq and a few people who want a secular Iraq that are too ----- to stand up for what they want. Three guesses as to what'll happen. Oh, and did I mention the Kurds? Give them their own nation and they'd back off for sure. Remember Israel? Same principle, different people.

Again, why is it a waste of time? The gas sure ain't getting cheaper, people, so don't bring up oil. If you want some psycho dictator (or his son - think Kim Jong and Kim Jong Il here, they're much the same) controlling a large percentage of the world's oil supply, raise your hands. Remember, he went for nukes as well. And this was a weapon-grade nuclear program, not a peaceful energy program. He'd have nukes right now if it weren't for the Israelis. Think about it before you start singing Saddam's praises.

What does it matter if the gas has gone up? That doesnt mean that we dont have oil.

Did you know that diamonds are pretty much worthless? The main companies that mine for diamonds hold very much of them to make them worth something.

Woopity do Halliburton is giving basicaly pennies to Iraq compared to how much profit they are making.

Did you know there are much more deaths than the news and the media are saying in Iraq? Well there are.

People I think should read up on things like this to actually know whats going on other than just having asumptions and the media tell you whats happing. BTW dont listen to much the media has to say especially since the government controlls the media.

Many times in the last year I have sat with friends in Iraq who told me that the hooded terrorists whom CNN, the BBC, and Al Jazeera were interviewing and passing off to the world as representing the sentiments of the Iraqi people, were not from Iraq at all, but from Yemen, Egypt, Saudi, or somewhere else outside the country, but were definitely not from Iraq.

    How do they know?

The same way we know if someone is from Boston or Texas. Accents. Yet CNN and the BBC make these international terrorists appear to represent the will of the Iraqi people. Nothing could be further from the truth. Nevertheless because CNN and Co. have told this lie loud enough and long enough, people around the world now believe them and have a negative view of the Coalition led invasion of Iraq. The media has skillfully misled the world into thinking Iraqis are against America and people the world over have become discouraged and disheartened by believing their lie. Was this a calculated ploy by the media? Why has the media done this? This is a good question because the truth as we know it from having lived in Iraq over the past year is that the overwhelming majority of Iraqis are very grateful to the United States for liberating them.

The government continually criticizes itself and tries to expose new scandals? Well ----, remind me to watch more.

Give me the names of three large companies in the US that aren't out to get a profit. If you can do that, I'll shut up right now. But you can't, and you and I both know it. That's the entire principle of free-market capitalism: get more money.

And did you see the twenty-odd Sri Lankan army soldiers that were killed today? People die in wars and small conflicts like Iraq. Hell, in WWII, the amount of people that die in a month today in Iraq was considered small news. Roll back forty years and look at Vietnam. When my dad was over there, one of his company's recon patrols was wiped out. Meaning everybody killed. Newspapers from the date didn't even report their names. Again, people die in wars. Impose the limitations that are currently placed upon our troops and a hell of a lot more will die.

You're right, oil isn't just used for gas. However, if we've got a "surplus" from the Iraq invasion, who in their right minds wouldn't produce more gas in the US? Explain to me that and I'll shut up. You've got the environmentalists screaming bloody murder because we wanted to drill up in Alaska to do what? Must not have been to drive the then-$3.00-a-gallon-prices down...

The news is saying there is onyl so many people dieing im not talking about realeasing names im talking about the death count. I have tlked to 3 people so far that have been Iraq more han a year that have been saying that there is over 3 times as many of people dieing than the media kill count.

Whats the deal with all the employes of companies that are getting the oil and such getting payed over 3 times as much as the soldiers protecting them?

What's the deal with a janitor being paid a fraction of what the school principal is being paid ;). Different jobs. If the soldier wanted to pump oil for a living, he'd have gone to that particular company. If he wanted the pride of serving his nation, well he's right where he wanted to be.

If the news is saying that there are only (for analysis's sake here) half of the casualties being reported, what's stopping the other half of the casualties' families from stepping up and complaining? Do you mean to say that the government is shutting them up? Well they haven't shut Cindy Sheehan up yet, and she's been bitching for what, two years now? Do you mean to say that a government capable of taking down a country in three weeks isn't capable of shutting up a few peoples' families? I don't buy it, and I doubt anyone with a bit of common sense would either.

Have you? I highly doubt it, seeing as you type like a fourteen year old and have the knowledge of a twelve year old in regards to how the US government works.

You mean to tell me that with all the communication possible, they wouldn't know that they haven't heard anything in x number of months? That they wouldn't make inquiries? When my friend was over there, I was able to e-mail him and recieve a reply multiple times. Who is to say that a family cannot do this, and if not do more? Again, I don't buy it. They'd know that something had happened if they haven't heard from him/her in a few months. Be it the soldier being killed or wounded, they'd know that one of the two had probably happened.

However, since you're making the claim of being a soldier, would you mind posting your DD-2807-1 form? If you can't somehow show up with this... k thankyou ;). That's your medical history form if you're that slow. Of course, for an Iraq vet, that shouldn't be an issue now should it? And I wouldn't pull up an "it's classified"-type response; it can be pulled from the US Army records if needed. Failing that, we could play the "who do you know" game if you come up with some "I-was-OMG-1337-special-forces!!!111-and-can't-show-any-records-cuz-its-classfied" response.

And don't make assumptions, mister soldier ;). I can tell that the fighting is bad when I hear from friends that they saw their team leader jump on a grenade in Husabaya. This was from 2004, by the way.

Your telling me I have the knowledge of a 12 year old? BTW many of my family members are in the government believe it or not.

I never said I was in the army but I have talked to quite a few people in the army not being in the same place at the same time saying closely the samething.

You were telling me to shut up if I haven't been to Iraq. You just said right there that you were never in the army. Watch your words and how you say them; you're just as informed as the next person is what you've just told me. You spoke like you had been to Iraq and as such were holding it over my head. It's not a smart bluff, kid. Don't try playing poker.

You've got the knowledge of the twelve year old in regards to how the government works. Like it or not, they can't legally "shut people up." It's impossible even if they could. Look at North Korea. They're one of the few communist regimes left. Communists, when in government power, are probably the best out there for shutting dissenters up. Yet they somehow can't stop some hidden cameras from taping executions or refugees talking about attrocities within the state? The US government can't either, and that's a fact. There are too many people and too many forms of communication out there to be able to stop someone from talking.

They don't "shut people up" anyway; the last time they tried that was Watergate, and that ended in the president resigning and a whole bunch of people losing their jobs. If it was going on right now, with the current Republican-dominated government, the Democrats would be screaming bloody murder. There are people out there that look to people's sex lives to dig up "dirt" on them, and I highly doubt that there are many people out there with "I slept with George W. Bush" written on their arms (they're probably not going to talk about it). Long story short: it's a hard thing to find out. You actually believe that something as complicated as silencing a dissenter (it's a lot harder to do it than just saying "hey, shut up" in case you didn't know; if they kill them, they've got to make it look "normal," and if they blackmail them, there is always a chance that they'll tell somebody). I stand by that statement. Those family members aren't you, are they? Do you work for the government? Do you have an intricate knowledge of how they operate? Do you or have you personally witnessed the government "shutting someone up?" I've got my doubts on each of those claims.
