Photoshop & ImageReady Easter Eggs Easter Eggs What is an Easter Egg, you ask? In an effort to stay sane while staring at thousands of lines of code all day, programmers and software engineers amuse themselves (and in the end you, the user) by embedding hidden, amusing features called Easter Eggs. In fact, The Easter Egg Archive has literally thousands of Easter Eggs, including many of the ones mentioned here for Photoshop and ImageReady. Mac Users: Ctrl = , Alt = Option Photoshop Easter Eggs 1. While holding down Ctrl and Alt, choose Help » About Photoshop (from the menus). You will see the hidden "Dark Matter" Splash Screen (shown on right). "Dark Matter" was the code name for Photoshop CS during development. (You can also see the Liquid Sky screen by holding down Ctrl and Alt while loading Photoshop). But wait, that's not all. There are several more Easter Eggs contained within this screen! "Liquid Sky" was the code name for Photoshop 7 during beta development. Photoshop 6 users: Your hidden splash screen will look like this. "Venus in Furs" was the code name for Photoshop 6 during beta development. Photoshop 5.5 users: Your hidden splash screen will look like this. "Strange Cargo" was the code name for Photoshop 5.5 during beta development. 2. Follow the steps below to reveal an Easter Egg that has remained a secret for two years (as of August, 2002): 1. Select the Type tool [ T ] 2. Click the Toggle Palettes button ( Toggle the Character and Paragraph palettes ) in the Options palette to display the Character palette 3. Select the Font Family field in the Character palette – not the Options palette – and type the name of a font that you have installed (e.g. "Verdana"), followed by "francis", "anthony", "christopher", or "mitzgy" – you'll get beeped at for each letter entered, but just ignore it 4. Now, click the Toggle Palettes button ( Toggle the Character and Paragraph palettes ) again and you should see this Easter Egg Photoshop 6 & 7 users: Your Easter Egg will look like this. Note: Once activated, this Easter Egg will persist until you type a new letter (or font name) into that Font Family field. 3. Begone! To find Merlin the Wizard, hold down the Alt key and select Palette Options from the Layers palette menu (Palette Options). Unfortunately, Merlin doesn't do much – the lazy bugger! 4. Palette Wizards This one is not really an Easter Egg, but something few people really notice. Open the Palette Options from the Layers palette menu (Palette Options): if you look closely, you will see that the little wizards in the thumbnails are the same as the one mentioned above. Now choose Palette Options from the Channels palette menu (Palette Options) and you'll also see their silhouettes. While holding down Ctrl and Alt, choose Help » About Adobe ImageReady 7 from the menus. You will see the hidden "Eelpout" Splash Screen (shown on the right). If you wait a few moments, the text credits will begin scrolling (press the Alt key to speed up the scrolling). "Pet Wolverine" was the code name for ImageReady 3 during beta development. ImageReady 2 users: Your hidden splash screen will look like this. 2. Duck Toolbar If you Alt-click on the ImageReady logo at the top of the Toolbar, it will change to reveal the Rubber Ducky. This Easter Egg is given to you at the end of the credits in the Splash Screen (as explain above). Alt-click again to get the ImageReady logo back. If you leave the toolbar in "Duck-mode", ImageReady will always display the alternate splash screen upon loading. ImageReady 7 users: Your toolbar will look like this. ImageReady 2 & 3 users: Your toolbar will look like this. 4. Duckerboard Create a New Document [Ctrl+N] (File » New): the size is unimportant, but make sure the Background is set to Transparent. Now, using the keyboard, type "duckerboard" (without the quotes). Your canvas squares (checks) will become little ducks. Note: To see the ducks better, increase your Grid Size (Edit » Preferences » Transparency). Also, to restore your default transparency pattern, just type "duckerboard" again. 5. Ducky Whenever you save a JPEG with ImageReady, or Photoshop's Save for Web plug-in, the word "Ducky" is written into the file's mime header. You can see this by opening the files into any text editor that is capable of displaying binary files. I did not write this i simply got this off of a site so dont flame me
