Photoshop has more features than GIMP, but it all depends on how good the user is at utilising those tools.
Gimp is free and really intended for those who do not wish to pruchase photoshop. They are similar, but photoshop far exceeds gimp in features. Not only that, but gimp is a little harder to learn on as well. With that said, gimp is the best route for beginers, who doesn't wish to pay money. However, if you are planning on doing art, or graphics it is wise to get photoshop.
I used GIMP a while ago. I absolutely hated it. Mabye it was because there aren't as many tutorials out there for it as there are for Photoshop, but man, I hated it. I always got very frustrated. I've been using Photoshop for a while, not for making signatures or anything, just for editing photos and doing stuff for photography in school. I much prefer Photoshop. You can do way more, and it is easier to use.
No comparison. Gimp is for the users who don't want to fork out the cash for a GOOD graphics program. Photoshop wins hands-down, all the way.
Ya i agree but i bet about 95% of the people who have ps didnt buy it so ya .... Ps is way better than gimp!
I use GIMP on my Linux partition, but only for photo editing/cropping, etc. when I use my digital camera. For graphics crap like you have here, I use PS simply because I'm more comfortable using it. However, you people are idiots to compare these two programs. One is a freeware program made for Linux that is more suited to photo work instead of actual sigs. The other is a $300-600 program that is suited to... everything. GIMP is not meant to be comparable to PS. Calling GIMP ---- because it's free is, as the guy stated, like calling a car ---- because the driver is blind. However, here's another thing: Windows XP costs around $200, correct? Linux is free, and yet I find it to be a better operating system because it's more stable and doesn't have the viruses and spyware that Windows is capable of getting. Is Linux ---- because it isn't $200? I haven't gotten a virus with Linux (and won't - it's impossible), but I've had to format my XP machine a total of three times in the past year. I've been using Linux for three years, and XP for a bit longer. Back on topic: for this "OMG PRO OMG OMG OMG GRAPHICS"-style childish bull---- that you get on graphics sites, PS is better. For a free program that's Linux-capable, GIMP is pretty damn good.
ps blows away gimp. gimp is pretty low and its basically for mac users because photoshop wont op on mac.
