Just got my new x850pro agp card, but it turns out my power supply only has 250 watts, and the reccomended is 350-450w. (theres not even a slot for the cable thats supposed to go into it.)

is a current deal on newegg, and I was wondering if this would work for me? I you need more specs ill try to tell you, but my computer isnt running. Just let me know if this is what I need, and if it was fast, thatd be awesome since its a limited deal, also any other suggestions on what to get. I dont have to much money, id try to say around 75$ max.

edit: I also found this one froma local computer shop,
    http://www.impresscomputers.com/item-detai...PS500&storeid=1

will this do the job? This place sells a good varitey of computer equipment at fairly cheap prices, anything found on this site would be awesome since its only about 5 minutes away.

    that is one craptastic PSU...

500W my ass, it's likely 450W peak then allows for a 5%margin of error, then allows for a 5% margin of error based in the ATX standards to get to 500W. Then sustained wattage which is what it can actually mantain under load is likely about 300W, above 300W voltages would begin to fluctuate causing hardware damage.

this unit is rated 500W sustained. same unit used in the Silverstone ST50EF but about half off(silver stoen rebrands this unit as its own)

any power supply should work. you just need enough power to support your many things. the one Xelink posted should work.

Well im about to go out and buy a 450-500watt power supply from a computer store, since I dont want to wait a week and pay more for it. ill keep in mind what yall said.

i mean ive been running a 250 watt for about 3 years, i can spend around 500 upgrading it to last another year or 2, or spend 1000 and have it last another 3-4 years, but im in college in 2, so thats why i refuse to buy a new comp

thats why i have all these questions.

again the wattage ratings are ----.

look for the amperage on the 12V rail. my 400W enermax can put out up to 30 amps on the 12V rail, my step father's "Dell brand" powersupply can put out 18 even though it is rated 375W.

again a company can rate a PSU 1000W peak but if it cannot sustain past 100W it is all but worthless. my 400 W sustained PSU would probably peak at 600W

if you trust a crap powersupply in your system go ahead, I won't take any responcibility for damage to it because the PSU couldn't deliver steedy voltage and blew a capacitor or f'ed a resistor

if you want a cheap PSU check this
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817104952

again fi you read reviews, you'll find a fair amount of peopel who replace "600W PSUs" with 400W one because the 600W PSUs made the system crash under load, yet the 400W ones don't...

again I've got a hell of a lot more in my system than yours and this enermax which is 'only' 400w doesn't skipa beat. quality>quantity(especially since tha quantity can be mistated)

(note how apevia is put into the ----ty do not use category on both?)

to better put this into perspective - if your computer was directly hit by lightening while it was running - it would die.

Well I went to this computer shop, and bought a 400W PSU, and well.. something ----ed up, and im guessing it was the PSU. I was playing BF2 just fine and normal (finally with no lag under new gfx card), and then I turn game off, leave room. I come back and theres a black screen. So i restart, still a black screen. Im guessing the PSU couldnt support the ATI card, but im not sure. I was hoping theres a way to fix this without bringing it into a shop and paying $60.00 an hour for it to be fixed.

Heres the PSU that I bought:

    Coolmax V-400. 80mm ATX V2.01 Power Supply
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...p?EdpNo=1621514

Thats not where I bought it, but WTF, i payed $60 for it at the store, im guna return it and just buy one express at newegg.

coolmax makes ----astic power supplies for the record.

    again i warned you

and it isn't that the PSU couldn't necessarily support the ATi card, it's that it can't support almsot any card.

the x800GTO is relatively light on energyuseage(when compared to the likes of a 6800ultra or highend x1k and geforce 7)

when you buy crappy PSUs it's liek taking a gamble with your PC.

FYI your old power supply is liekly better than your new one.

    check the reviews though
again you don't want to cheap out on powersupplies. this is coming from someoen whom "cheaps out" on power supplies FYI, I 'only' spent 80% on my PSU

and even then you paid 5$ too much
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817159043

so essentially it can't deleiver voltage reliably past 100W and might as well be called a 200W PSU.

Heres the deal, I went into the shop looking to spend around 60-70$ on a 500w. BUT all they had were these coolmax things with 400w. I asked him how it ran and he said good(well no ---- he said that, he wants money). I figured what the hell, since it was in the price range, and all they had. If i would have known its roughly $20 online, I sure as hell would NOT have gotten it. I put my old PSU and old graphics card back in for the time being. Im returning the PSU today, which unfortunately I only can get store credit for.. im just going to use it to buy some ram.(512 most likely). Also, I had to RMA the graphics card, so its guna b at least a week until I get it back, along with the PSU i just ordered(the one you suggested)

I hate to say it, but xelink told ya so...

I tell ya that last thing that you want to skimp on the price of if the PSU. I mean think about it, it is the single peice of equipment that supplies power to all you other parts.

Well at least the compy store didn't hassle you for the return of you PSU, but that really does suck that you had to RMA you vid card back.

Are you dumb? I already stated that I was unaware of its cheap value before I bought it, also, xelink did not say anything about buying cheap, until AFTER I had already purchased it. Thank you.

    And to xelink:
Im going to place an order for that Enhance 500w PSU within the next few days, since there is no rush. I'm pretty mad that I have to pay $12 to ship back a defective card, that wasn't my fault in the first place.

umm no, I am not dumb....keep in mind I am not the one that fryed my graphics card and PSU at the same time becasue of a cheap PSU. You should really do you homework before you buy something.

On the plus side you did make a great choice going with the Enhance PSU, now you sould be able to run you system no problem.

That about somes it up. You were not smart enough, and just made a rash decision. Also, don't be a jerk just because you don't have the sense to know that stores rip you off dearly. Xelink told you to check the Amperage on the 12V Rail; obviously you did not (15A, wewt?!)

To reiterate, don't call some one else dumb, when you yourself proved to be a fool.
