yesterday after logging off my brothers user, i went into mine, then suddenly it logged off again. we restarted, tried all the accounts (including admin). nothing.

then we phoned microsoft they told us to re-install windows, it didn't work, then after half a day on the phone we got it working. no files were lost but ALL programs/drivers were gone. so re-installing is gonna be pretty crap :(

Did you ever try booting it into safe mode?

You don't really have a question, but it is possible a virus wiped all of your drivers and somehow disabled the accounts then on login ran the reboot command.

My best advice would just be to keep your computer scanned as much as you can.

Hmm, I know that is a fairly common virus and I'm sure norton should detect it. Make sure you keep it updated and such :P

Well, hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Thats not the solution to everything.... Thats a fair bit of work when you've got 100s of Gigs of stuff.

It's much simpler to run and updated anti-virus, sure its not perfect, but neither is a reinstall. I've seen viruses go around that.

Norton is considered bad because people just done update it enough.

And there are plenty of good anti-virus programs.

The secret to not getting virus is watch where you go on the internet, watch what you download, and dont click links in MSN.

I dont run an AV program and I haven't had a problem in a year or so.

Yes, there are a few viruses going about that post messages like "Go to ww.msnnames.com for good MSN names" on MSN messenger. The worst thing is that the person who is infected with the virus can't see the mesages.

nah i don't do msn thingos. update norton evry week and if we couldn't even log in or get into safe mode how were we supposed to backup all our files first? well we did cuz the guy from microsoft actually knew something but without that we would have had to start from scratch. :( i mean even re-installing windows didn't work........
