It's also the brand which you buy, you can buy a liter of cheap Cola for not even the half of the price of real Coca Cola, and it tastes just as good.

Although i really like Ipod, the design and software is awesome.

yea i have heard lots of reports about the ipods breaking after a year or so, they are cheaply made and dont last long, so they are not highly reccommended!

    sheesh... crap.
    ipod bashing thread...
i bought myself a g5 with 30gb. and it owns.
nothing wrong with it. i mean absolutely nothing.
sound is cool. battery supplies me with energy for more hours than i ever needed and click wheel is awesome.
there simply is no other mp3 player that gets even close to the ipod's user interface and handling.
btw, i can't confirm those stories about ipod's breaking and scratchy displays. it seems to be not true.
the only thing that sucks are the standard earphones.
    they are... crap, lol.
this anti-ipod movement has to be stopped.
    ----
BUT, i can't say a word about the nano series though.
just that they are too small for my likings and don't have enough storage for all my music. never got the chance to test one for more than 5 mins...
so if you plan on getting one you should probably read some online reviews first...

I've had a Creative Zen and an iPod mini as well as my current iPod video.

Personally, I'd take the iPods over the Creatives any day. The Zen worked fine, I just prefer the interface of the iPod over it. Not to mention that the iPods look nicer and everything. As for the screens scratching, that'll happen anytime you have a faceplate like that (one solid piece of plastic) and you don't cover it. Invest a little money in a good case for the iPod, or even a sleeve and you'll have no trouble at all. The sound quality will be fine with whatever headphones you're going to buy, so that won't be an issue for you since you won't be using the standard free ones.

Also, for all the time I've used iPods (about a year on my mini, 8 months with the video) neither of mine broke at all. I've never had any problems with them whatsoever.

I think most of the iPod bashing comes from people who just go by what they've read online from other people. Unless you've actually used whatever it is you're going to bash, you should keep your mouth shut because you don't always know what you're talking about.

Im still thinking about getting me an ipod over a creative. I like the looks and the interface much better than the creative. I have used the older g3 ipod and I dropped it on carpet and it broke basically in half... I doubt the new ipods are like that since most people have them.

I like the convenience of the iPod. They are much more trendy, and it is much more easier to find things for it. The interface of selecting a song is the best part for me. The only negative I have is the damn iTunes...its horrible.

Creative's are amazing too, quality and pricing. The only thing I don't like is the size on some, and the scroll wheel on the side (For some of them), instead of touch. But for sure Creative is your best bet for cheap and effective.

If I were you, I would actually buy a 30 gig video, and a pretty good case, and then save for headphones. Unless you are using them for gaming. But I think it would be better for you to save up for the 30 gig...that is, if you have a lot of music. I have over 2,000 songs =) ALL LEGAL!!!!. Ha. Riight.
