so, this happened to my hd before,
whenever i turn on my com and do stuff it has started making a low humming sound...
it kinda causes the compuet er to lag a bit too.

the last time this happened, a few days later my hd started to hum and click and then the computer no longer detected it, and i had to get a new one.

i'm wondering why this is happening and what i can do?
    any advice?
my friend said that it is beacuase i dl and delete too many big files at once?
and its just like wear and tear?

    does defrag help?
    THANKS

Do you know what you are doing when you open up the computer? If so, I'd recommend taking a look inside, and making sure it isnt dusty, and is fitted properly. Remember to ground yourself so you dont static-out any of the circuits/components inside.

Hope that helps some, I'm pretty useless when it comes to this sort of thing :(

I believe it's just wear and tear. the system alone shifts data around alot, deleting and creating.

If the system cannot detect it, theres not much you can do. I believe you just neeed a new hard drive...

Click of death. You might want to consider backing up your stuff on an external HDD and buy a new, better HDD.

urumm... dude if it's a year old just return it on manufacte warranty.

also check your powersupply, might be giving it eratic voltages which could cause the platter to speed up or slow down at improper times

If it happened before, chances are it is something wrong with the installation or powersupply. I've never heard of HDDs dieing in a year due to wear and tare, unless you use it almost constantly. Make sure your HDD has the same voltage requirements as your motherboard and powersupply, and you may want to bring your compter into a shop if you dont know what your doing.
