I think what he means is that in ye olde days of gfx (last year some time :) ) everyone did grunge sigs with downloaded brushes etc... Then everyone moved onto smudge sigs and stuff and learned how to... smudge. So he's wondering what you learn with sprite sigs and vector sigs :)

While variation isn't bad....Following everything also, isn't good in some ways..A little diversity never killed anyone...you know? You shouldn't follow everything someone does.... While you m,ay learn from other styles, it doesn't mean switch COMPLETELY to that style, you know? :)

A fad is something someone does then everyone starts following and soon everyone starts to do it...sort of another word for trend...

I think that sprite sigs teach you about flow because you need a lot more flow in a sprite sig to make it work then a grunge sig or a vector sig. I think that you also have to learn a lot better technique for sprites because for them to really work, they cant be cheaply done.
