Hi guys. I need help on deciding what to buy. I went to some computer hardware ppl at the Microcenter and they said that the Next Graphics Card series won't appear until after ONE YEAR after the Vista OS and DX10 are release. If this it true, I will need a good graphics card because I will not be gaming in 3 years ;P.

I've looked at the nVidia gfx card that has a 7950 x2 on it. Its $500, which is very expensive. Should I invest in one of those? or is there another way to get the same quality results but without such an expensive price tag? Should I invest in a ATI gfx instead of nVidia? Need help!! I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thank you ^_^

This is URGENT as I need to ORDER PARTS so I can build at end of October.

umm... DX10 cards are out mid november I am hearing so they are full of ----.

7950 is nto a good investment, won't play dx10 games epriod, also offers no ral benefit with current games

what is you budget for a card?

    recomendations

GeForce 6200 or radeon x550 lowend

    x800GTo

Geforce 7600GT(or x850XT PE but no SM3 and both are eck/neck eprformance wise)

    GeForce 7900GTO(europe only)

AIW x1900(replace the cooler and you effectively have an x1900XT)

anything above is pointless and won't be worth the money whatsoever

I just got an ATI x1900xtx and it runs Source and other games at 100 FPS easily with my new setup. I'd reccommend it for you to get.

I wouldn't buy a graphics card over $150 at this point, as I'd wait for DX10. My recommendation is an ATi X1000 series card, and just wait it out until DX10 cards come out.

about the best bang/# card i can think of is 7600GT for 109$ second best is x850XT PE for 120$ both perform about the same.

if you really want to blow it though, 7900GTO, then flash the BIOS and you effectively have a 7900GTX for 250$

Yeah, I'd go with the 7600GT, or x850XT, or x800GTO and then upgrade to an G80 card in Novemberish.

Where do you live? I probably will get a 7900GS, its a GT but it has 4 less pixel pipelines and 1 vertex shader and there are changes to unlock it,

O.k. Thanks guys. So the DX10 Cards will actually come out soon? If so, I'll probably get a 7600 GT or a x800x/x850x. Thanks

Both ATI and Nvidia released a preview of their DX10 cards, so yea, won't take that long.
In the meanwhile, yea, got with something not to expensive, but still powerfull, like an 7900GT or an X850 :)

what are your other specs first? because if you have a ---- comp and get a 7600gt or a 7900gt you wont even notice the difference?

he could have a pentium 4 1.6 ghz (if those were ever made), 256mb ram, and integrated graphics, and yeah, trust me, he would see a difference.
