    I totally agree with that. I do think that a lot of the "Brand name" sigs you see done by EBK and BLT (and everyone else who has a three letter name in caps) aren't that great. They do have some incredible sigs, but a lot of the time it's the name that sells the sig, not the sig that sells the name. That frankly will not fly.

    Another thing that bugs me is that if you want to be "Semi-Pro" all you have to do is clutter a sig up, throw a model stock in there, and use 15 checkerboard layers. Your rank as an artist should be decided by how good you are, not how well you trendwhore. ;\

    Why do they sell better?

    They are known to the public by selling good work. If a person is satisfied with the work of a pro they will tend to buy more of his work. This is not to say that all the work from a pro will be bought by the same person since we all have different tastes. The reason why we always see that pros sell more is because of their reputation built by their exposure in selling what people are looking for. Why does BLT, EBK sell more? Simple, people buy coz they know that their work is good and they know them and trust them. We can’t go around buying stuff from people we don’t know, for goodness sake, it could be a rip and we buy something that is not even theirs.

    Reputation is built step by step. People will see the work of anybody, pro or not pro. If a person is not a pro other people will see the consistency of his work and with over time they will start to trust this new artist. The problem is that some people just come from Jupiter or Pluto, they are not known and they want to sell stuff right away. Their work is the best for them but when we see it is not what we want, is not a good job compared to the pros we are used to buy our sigs from.

    People are not brainless or stupid, they are intelligent and nobody will buy all what it is produced by a pro. People will always skim what they see and blockeduate it to see if it is what they want. Yet due to the popularity and exposure the pros will be selling more than anybody else.

    What is good for the goose is not good for the gander. What is a bad sig for my taste is a great and awesome sig for someone else. So, if some people buy a sig that I consider garbage for me what is to say that the same sig is not gold for them? Smart people will always go to what they know it gives them better promises. They will do their first stop with the pros they know and trust. If they don’t find anything interesting in that first stop in the pro’s shop then they will move to see someone else’s work. The problem is that by visiting the pro first there might be a great work and they will be more likely to buy it. They will spend their money and time in what they got and have no time for buying from someone else.

    So, the key is to become more popular and trust worthy through our produced work. Many agree that if the work is great they will buy it from anyone, it doesn’t really need to be only the work of a pro to buy it or sell it.

    blockeduate = e-v-a-l-u-a-t-e
    for some reason blockeduate replaces the other word.

    Well, i guess its the same with real life..

    If something was painted by Van Gogh, its worth 1000000, Yet if someone was to paint something even better, it would sell for 5 dollars because it isn't a van gogh

    The reason is obvious. No one knows person B, so no one really gives a damn too. BUT! One day he may be popular and you will regret it. Like with Van Gogh, pepole REALLY hated him. Deeply. But now they don't anymore. He dies not knowing he was awsome. :) So, it's better to buy what you like in my opinion. :) In GFX is even more stupid not to do so. That is just my of course. ^^

    I would have to agree with Broken because if you really think about it, an established painter or artist would be able to sell art for tens of thousands of dollars where someone who's unknown will strugle to sell even one painting.

    It's all about the brand name these days. A perfect example would be to have a known painter and a unknown painter,; paint the same thing. The paintings would be exactly the same but which one do you think would sell for more? ;)

    When it comes to art, I will only pay for something I like. If I think it looks like crap but it has a big name attached to it, it's going to have to be bought by someone else. About Picasso and Van Gogh, they're art didn't start skyrocketing until after they died, so who's to say if someone else did the same thing and died wouldn't be as popular?

    brand means everything in the real world. names become popular becos of a standard they set sometime ago, and it has been with them for a long long time
