ehh google it , jsut get soem DDR2 so-DIMMs and again google it. I've never poped a laptop open myself, but i figure it can't be THAT dificult. I manatain my position that getting a laptop form an OEM is pretty mucha given due to the lack of available parts but still no need to pay premium prices, I've heard of peopel swapping GFX cards, ram and cpus so I doubt it is THAT hard. google

i am suggesting upgrading from the base unit on our own. OCing isn't a huge possibility nor is upgrading past a certain point, so why no go witha rpeconfigured system. quality is about the same, and it is in most cases cheaper if you don't pay for overpriced upgrades pluys there is the lakc fo selection issue still out there.

if you dont' want to open, it just upgrade the RAM on the site itself asd it is still cheaper better. the RAM and only the RAM. total cost under 1200 THE END. don't buy anything else done.

There's always that for like, 65 bucks mroe (change the HD to 60g, or for 9 more bucks 80gbs)
if u like how it looks and such more xP
bout the same exact thing, but it comes with a t5600 instead, and if u change the alienware one to a t5600 its the same price...

so ur choice to go a tad higher for slightly bigger HD and looks..and slightly better cpu i guess too xP

    Only 72 more bucks for:
    1024MB(512MB X2) DDR2-667 PC5300 [Notebook Memory]

if u do go with this instead, make sure u get the right memory. the 2 bucks more for that memory vs. ddr2-553 is good....cuz i mean..its 2 bucks..really now

recall the fact that the Core 2 duo in the alien ware system is about 20% more powerful perGHZ and so far it hasn't shown any reductions in battery life, I'd say the alienware system is a better deal considering it is 40$ less for more ro less the same performance(vs. upgrading to a 2.0GHz Core 1 duo)

    Say what?.....
they were both the same kinda cpu's...the ibp one was a t5600 and Aw one was t5500...
more or less i'd be thinking about the HD change and the RAM for him..

    I'm just thinking...

Mine comes with slightly better CPU..no big change
    A DVD-RW burner...
9 more bucks gets u a 80gb HD vs. the 60gb for 9 bucks less
    1024MB(512MB X2) DDR2-667 PC5300 for 72 more bucks...
Free Game Hero..eh why not? xD
and your choice of some cool designs if u like..

    Total Price...1,150
    5% off = 1,093 (i think)
    no shipping

Also Comes witha Free Deluxe Carrying Case :D
    IBP should be paying me...

And to add, get home edition for 15 bucks less if you DONT want XP Media Center...

    Post-shipping Alienware price is $1,033.00

(exactly) 60 dollar differense, so decide there whether or not the IBP one is worth it or not.

slower CPU... lower performance/WATT. on a laptop that is kinda vital. if you finish the task 20% faster, your components go back into low power mode and you're battery life is expanded.

THERE IS A DIFERENCE BETWEEN A CORE 1 DUO AND A CORE 2 DUO. SEE P5 vs. P6 ARCHITECTURES FOR DETAILS.

the CPU in the IBP system isn't slightly faster, it is slightly slower and it uses about 10% more wattage(TDP and min wattage wise) at the same time based off W=conducatance*voltage^2*frequency. There is also around a 9% performance disparity in terms of overall computational power from the CPU, and remember the enhanced cache architecture helps make up for the relatively slow ramavailable on laptops.

if you're absolutely edging to save a buck go for diablo's suggestion, it isn't a bad buy. I'm just sayuing what I woudl get if I had say 1500$ to spend(note how)

EDIT didn't note DVD drive disparity, this lessens the diference to a point...
