Dunno if this is the right section but how do people type chinese characters on some of their tags? Do you need a program? I have some chinese/japanese fonts but when I type in it, the letters are in english.

You don't need a program, it must have been the fonts you downloaded.

Most likely the computer isn't set to use japanese/chinese characters, I forgot how to enable it, but the microsoft website should tell how. If that doesn't work, then it was the fonts you downloaded.

No, all you do is search for a font on dafont.com for something Japanese/Chinease.

I couldn't find one at dafont though. I think my computer has some default chinese ones because when I select the text tool and drop the bar where it shows all my fonts, the chinese one preview shows chinese chars but when I type with it, it isn't chinese. Can you help me find one then?

    No, no, no.

The fonts at dafont are not real chinese or japanese fonts.
They are like dingbat fonts -- it's just gibberish.

It wouldn't make sense to use those fonts if you wanted to put a real phrase in chinese, for example, because since typing "A" produces one character/word... yeah. Doesn't make sense.

If you want real chinese fonts, just google for 'free chinese fonts' and I can think of two main sites where you can download over 5-10 ones [don't remember the exact ones, though.]

If you have Windows, you have to go to your Regional Settings.
Set-up a key combo to enable chinese/english mode.

    {Mine, for example, is pressing SHIFT+ALT}
After pressing the key combo as so, you can then type in pinyin [if you want to type in Mandarin, etc.] and the character will show. Keep in mind of the differences between Traditional and Simplified characters/fonts if you, in fact, are using Mandarin.

    2. go to ctrl panel > regonal language things
    3. select chineese
    4. right click start bar >show language bar
    5. u can now switch between chineese and english language by using a little tab on the start bar

    Quoted for emphasis.

Try not to use dingbat fonts, unless you want gibberish or a chain of characters that together, don't make any sense on a tag. It's a bit tasteless, especially since you'll have something that reads "HAPPY JOY KITCHEN" on a tag. Yeah, not very...cool.

Chinese cannot be directly translated from like... letter 'a' to a word.
Nope, it doesn't work that way.

Real chinese fonts are only available on sites like sinosplice.com
Look for unicode fonts, not dingbat fonts.

    Google Search Results

--- As an added note, kanji is what they call written [usually] japanese characters. It's not a language on its own.

EDIT: Forgot to mention something obvious; you will need to know the basics of chinese to obviously type chinese characters. If you just want to use chinese characters to make something look 'cool', I suppose you can just use dingbat fonts. Just don't think that typing a string of them out means something profound and amazing.
