the x1950 has the single most powerful GPU.

the 7950GX2 has two, of course the GX2 has a bit of an advantage and costs more... also, the x1950 still beats in it ina few cases beleive it or not, as in almost all scnarios where the screen resolution is less than 1600*1200

having a gigabyte of vRAM doesn't mean anything if that vram isn't used, it's liek having 16GB of RAM on a system with 1 200mhz Pentium I. if a game doesn't have a large working set it really means nothing

unless you have a monitor which is alrger than the current largest available you will be sorely disapointed in the case of many games. especially since GFX cards can difuse some fo their work to your system ram... I have 2GB system ram at 766mhz 4-4-3-12 so I'm fine

k so not even a 10% performance boost, imagine the diference of going between 512 and 1024... even less

hey look the 256mb card actually beats the 512 overall by if calculated by percentage... and FEAR is supposed to be one of the msot vRAM hungry games...

net conclusion... on higher end cards it helps, but in eality, if you don't have a $4000 monitor you won't be getting to much. if you have a lowend card then it doesn't matter at all whatsoever.

if you buy the card with more vRAM to future proof your setup right now you're foolish seeing as hwo no cards out currently are directx10 compliant, next-gen games won't even startup with your card. if you bought that card for high end gaming right now at extreme resolutions then it is somewhat justifiable, sorta save for the horific performance to price ratio.

Go for the X1950XTX... cheaper than nvidia's 7950GTX, and matches preformance at 1280x1024 (standared 17/19"LCD - 19"CRT)... Crossfire and SLi are pretty much pointless unless you're playing 1600x1200 / 1650x1080 or higher resulutions...

Here is something I posted on another forum that might be usefull..

alright... ill agree with you on most of it...

all but the chart... which is where its a stupid chart... that chart basically displays the games at the minimum levels.. no AA, no AF, and no HDR

so ofcourse the 256 is goig to do as good cuz its not at its level of play..

imo, if you are looking for the best card, go for the ATI X1950XTX, mainly becuase ATI's cards generate a better picture because of their ability to render both high dynamic range lighting and antialiasing at the same time.
Look at This and This to see what I mean when I say ATi has better image quality.

I'd an x1900XT overthe x1950 due to price performance. again no cards otu are dx 10 compliant, the x1900XT MAXES OUT EVERYTHING out there at this moment, you can always add a second for crossifre assuming you have an SLI or crossfire or 975X board(<3 hacked drivers)
