hey im getting a new computer cause the other ones ----ed. I didnt want to pay much. And im not very good with computers. So can you guys tell me if im getting ripped off or not. i think its a good deal. windows Xp family edition service pack4 (updated) 160 Go 512 Mo of RAM Pentium 4 3 GHz LCD screen. 17 inches. price: 850$
ripped off badly. only thing good i see is that the monitor is the in the deal. windows xp family edition? double u tee eff? Home Edition? I have never heard of an SP-4. 160 Go? What's go? You can build a much better system then that for the money (also, why can't you just reuse the monitor you were previously using?)
sounds like something i coulda found for 400$ about 1.5 years ago w/o screen, probably worth around 500ish right now including monitor. to put it in contrast, your CPU is semi-----ty, and half a gig of ram(likely low performance ram at that) doesn't cut it also, it is unlikely hat it is a legitimate copy of windows, there is no such thing as service pack3, yet alone sp4. also no such thing as family edition though there is a home edition. and FYI it is MB and GB no MO AND GO.
xelink and joh are entirly correct, for that amount of money you could build yourself a pretty damn good system. Also, for the part about you not being very good with compys...well don't wrorry about it, just ask for some help selecting parts and you will be fine. But trust me, spending $800 on the setup you listed....that is like getting ass raped.

800 american dollars? and it's likely that family edition is a translation of home edition,k I beleive in france there is a 'Familiale' edition which should be the same as home but I cannot be certain this is the first time i heard family edition in such a context.

I'll limit it to 700$ for just the parts DVD burner 40$ 250GB PRM baracuda harddrive 80$ athlon x2 3800+ 150 Biostar TForce motherboard 80$ x850XT 95$ after MIR Case 40$(coolermaster centurion 5) enhance/silverstone(same unit as silverstone model) 500W 60$ 2GB Patriot LLK RAM if you wont be gaming, you could drop the card down and put the cash into getting a core 2 setup if you should desire.

2.6GHz on a CPU doesn't mean anything, there is a huge diference between a 2.6GHz kentsfield and a 2.6GHz Celeron D with 128mb l2 cache. total max wattage doesn't matter on a PSU. it is the sustainable amperage on the 12V rails which does, atleast on recent computers.
