I don't know about you guys but I use my desktop for almost everything. I find it's eaiser to find things and make folders for them. I have all my renders and psd's in one folder and some movies and other junk and so on....

I heard recently that having these files on your desktop can take up unnecessary ram and is a bad place to hold your files.

    Is this true?

Do you guys know any reasons why I shouldn't keep my files on the desktop?

    Any help is appreciated. :)

from what i know i believe its true (not a 100% sure though)

i think it takes up ram because it has to loads them all onto the desktop or it has to show them there

umm the performane 'cost' is negligeable.

the onyl diference is windows needs to load the little icons for the files and do a few very small things. I think it's humanly impossibel to note the diference ona modern computer.

Our old computer was so slow that we had to call a guy to help us fix it. All he had to do was to move some big stuff away from the desktop and it was a lot faster again. My dad had instaled a few progs on the desktop :P and had some HUGE files there too. I'm not sure if it's that bad if you have it in a directory but i recomend you to move all stuff to your documents folder and make shortcuts on the desktop.

again it is likely that he edited the msconfig settings which take baout 1/10th of a second as well.

I have nbo idea why people ever need an inhouse tech guy for software issues... just pop ina windows CD sit back relax and you're set...
