i think you should be able to turn off the word filter in your usercontrol panel so everyone stops complaining about things like blockedistina ([c]hristina) and -----cat dolls ([p]ussycat dolls) being blocked, it would also stop all this complaining.


maybe you say they have to be 18 to use the feature, and then have a user agreement holding gamerenders not-liable for anything a minor reads that their legal gaurdian wouldnt allow them too, or is offendd by, and the views/cpomments of the poster(s) do not show any viws or opinons from the gamerenders owner(s).

Thaty'll be pretty sweet, but osmetimes i use bad terms because i know they'l be filtered but since people choose whether or not to be filtered that would be nice.

 

yes, but i'm pretty sure you can't make it so if you put your age to over 18 it stops filters, and if you could in theory, wouldn't everyone just put their age to over 18?

 

What you are not understanding, is it doesn't matter who TYPES the stuff, it's who VIEWS the typings. So being 18 to type it does absolutely nothing; 13 year olds still see it.

 

exactly. Plus how are u gonna guarentee that people arent lieing about thier age. People complain, its a fact of life, and people complaining about the word filter are generallly only complaining about 2 words, blockedist being one and the (+) being the other. let people complain all that has to be done is let the mod close the topic. Most things are blocked because people can't use them in a mature way.

 

master, thats the point. and a 13 yr old shouldnt see it unless he/she lied, wich in that case gr isnt liabl for anything they rad or w/e.

Alot of people that are over 18 dont want to see people swearing. They are banned words because they are rude. Why do you want to be able to just swear for no reason. Not trying to sound like a kid but they are bad words. You go to college and as soon as you hit 18 are you allowed to swear, i doubt it.

Certain words are blocked, because they are inappropriate, plain and simple. It has nothing to do with age. You could be 2 years old, or 99 years old, it doesnt change the fact that the words being filtered are inappropriate.

As to ch.ris.tianity being blocked. I am not sure why that one is blocked. My guess would be that too many people where using it in vain, and it offended enough people that they complained and it was felt it should be blocked.

THe reason those are blocked is because people can't use certain words in a mature or responsible fashion. Other words, like Logic said already, are blocked because they are simply inappropriate in any context. You'd have to either find or code an edit to the forum to allow that. Doing that just so some people can see a few words that were deemed inappropriate isn't worthwhile.

I think this is a very good idea. Maybe not depending on the user's age primarily but only 18+ to have a such on/off filter. Having particular words banned completely removes any free speach of any kind. If you're older than 18 and don't like the words, turn the filter on. If you're below 18 and lie, then gamerenders isn't liable. I don't see any issue with this.

 

Thus why disabling the word filter would be wrong. All hell will break loose with everyone spamming f*ck and whatnot for stupid reasons.
