I have a friend who has been saving all his money for the past year or 2 and he finally has 3000$ and he wants my help in buliding it for him. I bulit my computer a year ago and I have kinda of forgotten all of the knowedlge I had before. So I am in need of some help from fellow GR members. He wants a computer that will run everything amazingly (games, browising, everything) This is a computer nerds dream so can some people hook me up with some links and everything I should buy. Thanks!
What your friend needs is a brain, seriously. No need to spend $3000 on a computer now-a-days. MAX $2000 would be enough to last him 2 years. But, if you does want to spend around that much, tell him to wait until Early 2007. DX-10 will be out, Radeons new core (r600) will be out, and the quad-core Kentsfields will be out (if he wants to spend around $900-$1000 on a processor. But in all seriousness, have him wait a few months, if he CAN (assuming the computer he is on now is bearable.) If not, look at something to the effect of this.. core 2 duo e'6600 asus p965 premium 2x 1GB patriot ddr2-800 x1900xt 2x 320gb seagate barracuda with prm tech nec cd/dvd r-rw thermaltake full-tower case and if he wants to Overclock-- a good water-cooling kit. or for a mild overclock -- scythe infinity hs&f you can find all of this on newegg. ill let some one else get the links
e6600 2GB G. Skill Hz RAM Asus P5W DH scythe infiity is goof for air up to say 3.6-8GHz stable long term single GeForce x1800XT to hold you off until ATi releases R600(which is truely insane) at which point you can use the x18800XT for physics and the one or two x2k card for crossfire PCP&C 1000W PSU Thermaltake Armor case 4*320GB baracudas with PRM in RAID5 if he can put off until october, I suggest getting CrossFire Xpress 3200 Intel Edition on the motherboard, (if he is i it is impatient a gigabyte DS3 should certainyl hold him by) insane supporting 3 full speed PCI-e slots, independant RAM, system bus, and PCI-e overclocking, official support for 1333mhz FSB(though people are guessing it will make it to 2000mhz + FSB with a moderate of tinkering) if there is cash left over(and I'd hope there woudl be) have him get two 20inch monitors
owned geforce x1800 is like what 250? if you want to get the best graphic out.. just go get.. new ATI radeon one.. its 500$
i've seen it for as low as 190. the idea would be to use it as a GP-GPU for physics calculations. and the x1950XTX is the same as the x1900XTX with a memory change. not worth the cost really esp when you consider the fact that DX10 cards are jsut around the corner. it doesn't matter if the card is powerful enough to play a game if it can't run a game due to an API incompatability.
If its for just graphics get good ram and a Dual core CPU for the most usage.... dont worry about a really expensive video card
having a dual core CPU won't increase photoshop performance if i am not mistaken and a core 2 @ 3.6GHz give out about double the performance of a Pentium D/P4 at 3.6 don't beleive me? check the superpi thread http://www.gamerenders.com/forum/index.php...pic=220648&st=0 easy score right there and i can go MUCH higher with a bit of effort... effort which i don't care to put into it since I am RMAing a motherboard...
c hris, just ignore the nubs; seriously. they continually post here without a slightest clue of what they are talking about. just leave up to people to deside who to listen to.
just did a litle research PS is semi-threaded. the app itself isn't threaded, but cerain filters can take advantage of an SMP enviroment. nonetheless, EVERY GODDAMN recent CPU is dual core for a proc of this budget it's kind of a given. only use for single core CPUs is in sub 400$ systems.
holy ---- dont spend 3000 dollars on a computer... build a 300 dollar computer like me and laugh at hte people that waste that much money and get only 15% more performance than you.
