I had that a while back too... I just pulled the windows CD in and the pc was good again. Nothing was lost.
unplug all unneeded peripherals, disable BIOS optiosnsee if that helps... I had this before when i had bad drivers for a wireless adapter fvcking service pack 2....
Hmm, I didn't read the whole thread, so sorry if this is already said but try this: -Open up your case and clean op all the dust, this solved a lot of problems on my 433mhz celeron. -If that doesn't work, and you have important files on your CD, get a bootable GUI, like Knoppix. http://www.knoppix.net Copy all your files on a other hdd, cd, your mp3 player, flash stick whatever. Then reformat.
insert the xp cd and go into the recover console and type help and lok for bootsector or something with boot and run that one and replace the bootsector if that fail u got to re format Merged Post: i ain't explain that good since its been a while since i did it pm me if u need help
actually dark star bring up a good point, you should definatly check the guts of you compy and make sure everything is ok in there to begin with. Could just be that you are overheating. If all else fails, then I am with everyone else...reformat window will end up being you only solution.
heres the thing. If you can get to dos then u can back up a few files onto a floppy (dunno if dvd or the rest will work) otherwise Just reformat the PC or get another HDD use that then copy the files from the hold HDD while its hooked up
actually, it IS a blue screen of death, except theres an option so that instead of having the blue screen of death showing up, the comp automatically reboots... My Computer>Properties>advanced tab>start up and recovery settings under "system failure" -> automatic restart or if you have XP Pro...you can disable it from advanced boot options (pressing F8 at boot screen) linkie (i know its in a virtual machine, but its the same thing...i have it too) that will take you to the blue screen of death and your problem...then you can google it or something and try to find a fix...if there is any...
