To sum it all up, my main files such as index.php and conf_global.php got deleted from my host. I uploaded the most recent versions of them I had on my pc, and then noticed that my skin was also gone.

Here is the message I get when going to my forum index:

cacheid_4 is the ID of forum skin. All of the images for the skin, and the skin folder are gone. I have them on my computer as .xml files which are self-installers. The only problem is I need to be able to get into the admin CP to load the skin. I get the same error message as above. The only thing I can think of is doing a fresh install, and I only want to do this as a last resort.

    All help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

Well without index.php alone there is no forum, so if you're missing files its not possible to have forum. And you must upload the image trough your FTP not trough the ACP.

    Thanks for the fast reply.

I put the index.php and conf_global.php back up. I had backups on my PC. Also, to install a forum skin, you have to be in the Admin CP.

Open conf_global and make sure your information is in the file. Sql DB name, username, passowrd, ETC. Might be missing since you didnt use those to install the board, just used as back-ups.

It is. The only problem is there is no skin. The skin it tries to load doesn't exist anymore, therefore, I get that error message. I need some way to import the skin and images xml. I can't get into the Admin CP because the skin is gone! AHHHHH!!!!!! :(

I just looked in my Cpanel. Go to PHPmyadmin, Open your DB, go to ibf_skin_sets, edit that file, and look for the default skin, click to edit it, and change value for set_default from 0 value to 1. See if that help get back to the default skin so you can get into the board and ACP.

Note-----I have not tried doing this, but this is the only way I see getting it back to the default skin with no ACP access. This may or may not work. But it is worth a try.

Be sure to change your current skin value to 0 to prevent confilcts.

That sounds reasonable. I don't have cpanel access since I'm on a subdomain; but, I'll have my server admin do it for me. Thanks a lot! :)

just copy a set of one of your other skin files into the directory.

so copy say the files from /skin_cache/cacheid_1/ into the /skin_cache/cacheid_4/ folder. that will fix it, then just go reupload your intended skin.

Your default skin was deleted. try and going into the admin panel and setting the IPB skin as default one then you can fix it by installing a new one. If you cannot access the admin then just do what defuzion said.

    Thanks for all the replies!

That sounded like a killer idea! Too bad it didn't work. :( I only have cacheid_2 now, since 4 got deleted.. Cacheid_2 is for IBStore anyway, so, it's not important. So, anways, I had the bright idea to install another forum on the same server (with new table prefixes, of course) and take the files from that cache and put them on cacheid_4 on the actually forum directory.. It didn't work. I get this message:

If anyone wants to help in a more direct way, you can IM me on MSN.

    Thanks.

@ Reliq. - That worked; but, I got numerous other errors after I did that. I'm just re-installing.

    Thanks for the helping, everyone!

Make sure when you reinstall, you also upgrade to the newer version; IPB 2.1.7 because there is a SQL exploit in 2.1.6. :)
