Hi My computer is a Dell inspiron 1000 notebook and is about a year and a half old. It also comes with only 224 mb of ram. So I started to really get annoyed with the amount of lag from online games and recently i have decided to do something about it. What usually happens is its ok when i turn it on, i start off with around 60mb of ram unused. Then i open up my teamspeak and the game, and im still at maybe 30 or 25. For about an hour and a half to two hours, it runs good without any lag. Then It starts to make a slight buzzing noise and it lags like no other. I already made sure i have all unnessecary programs turned off, and i thought it was just the ram. But now i'm thinking. Do i really need more ram, or is my computer just overheating? I would like some help with this because I have had to deal with this for a long time now and i finally have decided i need to do something. So if you can, from what i told you, could someone recommend what i should do from here? If you need more information about my laptop just ask here. Thank you.
well with the issues with laptops is yer they do over heats if u have then on a cusioned surface and may be restricting the fan. also yes for online games you need more RAM. You have 256 mb ram but says 224 because it should be using 32MB ram as an onboard gfx card You can check this by goign to dun and typing in DIAG then display TAB I would say definately at least 512 ram you need for games and 1GB is a good standard and for the real gamers 2GB does the job I CURRENTLY HAVE 1GB and it runs fine.
Ok thanks I will have that upgraded. And yea i knew it was 256mb already. Oh and could you recommend me like what i should get? I don't really know where to look. And It still overheats even when its on a table.
hmm well i am not too good with knowledge on Laptops, i leave mine on well 24/7 and after about 3 months i had to turn it off as the sounds coming from it was not entirly normal lol If you are goign to upgrade anything on a desktop or Laptop and would want to purchase from a shop, i would recommend www.dabs.com i built my computer with their parts and its great value and great shipping times. If you want for pure cheapness the bet place to get moer RAM is FASTMEMORYMAN on www.ebay.com He sells ram unbelievablly cheap. i bought a 11GB DDR400 elixier for £27 I would definatley say your computer is on DDR 1 ram remmerb to get it for notepads and not desktop otherwise u wil have some trouble cramming it in.

check the motherboard to see if can support more ram. if you don't know, just post what motherboard you have.
thats what i originally thought was the problem was the amount of overheating. and i have already pre determined that my computer can hold up to a gig of ram. It can also hold up to two cards so i'm keeping the 256mb one i have and getting a 512mb one.
overheating is the problem fo sure if it was your ram u would lag from the start i suggest 2 things 1. to upgrade your ram to 512 or a gig and more importantly get the laptop checked out for the cause of the overheat it cold be since your laptop is already a year and a half old perhaps one of the system fans is damaged causing the overheat it sould be checcked out
