Get the pen tool and click anywhere on your canvas, and click another point. (you can creat curves by click and hold when creating a new point, and just move the mouse) once you made your point and you need a perfect 90Degrees angle click hold ALT and click the last point you made

Pen isnt that hard but most people use it to render. i tried it and the render wasnt to bad. :)
You need to zoom in. and start cutting out the image you want to render.

once you have clicked around it right click and press make selection, then go to file>new and keep everything defualt and drag your render and place it on the new docu. :)

I saw this way on a tutorial and like it, I always use it now.

Get out the brush tool and click the button to edit in quick mask mode (the button that looks like a rectange with a circle in it, the right one)

Then brush over the bit you want to cut out, the to do the edges zoom in and use a smaller brush.

Then go click Edit in Standard Mode (the button next to the mask button) and press Ctrl+Shift+I or Select>Inverse

Then just click Edit>Copy or Ctrl+C, Open a new document and paste.

I find that way the easiest, that's just my opinion though.
