For memory you can set firefox to delete the temporary internet files everytime you leave (Tools>Options>Privacy) that clears up like 100 megabytes for me.

Also, uninstall stuff like Winzip if you winrar, old files, programs you don't use etc. In the Adobe Photoshop program file folder you can delete all the help files etc.

And also PSD's easily take up 10 megs each, Zip up your old ones.

If you use MSN and you get some PSD's and tuts through that you should clean out your received files cuz there's a copy of everything you downloaded there.

If you right click on your hard drive you can run a disk clean-up, those get rid of 50 or so megabytes for me.

As for the scratch disk problem, If I dont have enough I sometimes plug in my 512 mb flash drive And then in Adobe Photoshop go to Options > File handling and scratch disk? Not sure about this but set your secondary to the flash drive, works fine after that.

Yeah I'm away from home on a crappy laptop, so I had time to try a lot of things. Anyways, hope this helps you. :D

Buying a new hard drive is the only way to completely fix these problems, most of the other suggestions, while they are good, are only temporary fixes.

Defragging doesnt remove anything, it merely reorganizes data so it can be read faster
