There's a lot that makes a scary movie "scary". It can all depend on how the movie was made, actors, elements in the movie and also your surroundings. If you are watching the movie during broad daylight; you're more than likely not going to get scared. If possible, watch the movie when no one is home, least amount of people with you as possible or by yourself. Always be sure to have all the lights out and watch the movie at night.

If you really want to be scared, don't try and pick out flaws in the movie and laugh during it. Instead you should try and get into the movie and imagine if you were there and what if that was you. People now a days don't have the same mentality as what people used to have back in the 80's. Our way of life now is more extreme and it takes more to try and "wow" people or scare them. If you really want to experience the best out of the movie try and have the mind set of a child. This is when your creativity is at it's peak, meaning you can imagine you were in the position of the tortured and/or victim in the movie.

As for movies I could suggest that are scary?

In the Mouth of Madness - John Carpenter
Lord of Illusions - Clive Barker
    HellRaiser - Clive Barker

The Last House on the Left - Wes Craven
This movie was one of the first and most disturbing movies of it's time. You could say this was an influential movie for all directors in this era of horror movies and inspired the creation of a lot of slasher fills to follow. ie. Friday the 13th.

If you guys get a chance check out these movies and if you like them I'll list some more.

Yes, I'm a big horror fan; as you could've guessed. ;)

There this old movie "IT" about the demon clown Pennywise, Iam sure most of you know it.

I first watched it when I was 6 !, I bought by mistake from the video store cuz I thought the clown on the cover was kinda cute lol..... Apparently he wasnt that cute after all :( , that movie has stuck since then..

I can watch any horror movie without getting the goosebumps except that one.

But horror movies these days all depend on gore , which I find it disgusting more than scary actually.

I think what would make a movie TRUELY scary is if it was realistic...not w/ a character who can't die....

If you were in the position that the 2 guys from the Hostel were in; would you not be scared?

If you woke up in a chair, tied up and gaged, in a dark room with all types of knives, weapons and you knew you were going to be torchered; would you not be scared?

This is what I mean about people saying the movie wasn't scary. Not all horror movies are going to make you jump and scream from your chair, some movies are supposed to make you think.

Try and put yourself in the victims shoes and then you will be scared.

I think the movie that scared me REALISTICALLY the most would be "An Inconvenient Truth". The thing that scared me the most, was what could happen if the world keeps running like it is.

If you've never seen it and want a scare get 'The Ring.' The 2nd time its not to bad, but if your watching it for the 1st time it's pretty scary.

I just saw Silent Hill the other day...I think its one of the best horror movies out , atleast it depends on psycho-horror not gore.

There were some really depressing scenes that had me on the verge of crying and the music is unbelievable.
