I'm building a computer, and I had originally picked out an AMD Mobo and CPU, but have recently looked into some Intel options, just to compare. I had no preference towards either AMD or Intel coming in so I wanted to make sure I atleast looked at both options to see where I can get the best performance/$ ratio.

Note - Motherboards: I have no idea on how to compare Chipsets, so if anyone could fill me in on any big difference (if any) between the AMD/Intel motherboards' Chipsets that would be great.

Note - CPUs: I kno it is important for a CPU to have a large L2 Cache, but what is the importance of the L1 Cache? Also, what is the importance and effect of the Process Type (65nm/90nm)?

    Option 1 - AMD:

Motherboard - ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

    Processor - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor - Retail
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103747

Sound Card - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS SB0350 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - OEM

    Total Price: $444.98

    Option 2 - Intel:

Motherboard - ASUS P5B Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813131030

    Processor -
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 1066MHz FSB 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819115004

    Sound Card - None

    Total Price: $459.98

    -----

There's only a $15.00 difference if I don't buy a sound card for the Intel Mobo and CPU option (I originally thought it was only $5.00 but they just made the sound card $10.00 off on Newegg :P )

    What are your opinions?

Intel. Believe me I went through this already. After posting here and getting tons of help, I went out and researched some stuff.
That Intel setup you have is going to give you better performance than the AMD.
Also, there is NO need to get that soundcard. Intergrated sound is fine.

    Hope this helps :)
