i think it would work with some requirements.

1,000+ posts to go in the section would work because some people cant afford donators accounts or just dont have paypal and a credit card so its impossible to buy a donators account.

the 3 strikes rule logic brought up is a great idea. if you flame or abuse rep because of the debate section you get a strike. and 3=ban or a heavy fine and suspension.

also GR could get 2 or 3 sectional mods just for the debate section to keep things under control. they would be on top of things and give out strikes and close topics if the flaming gets to be too much.

with those 3 things i think having a debate section would deffinately work, and im for it.

That's why those people wont post there. All -rep is checked. That is why there is many moderators..

First of all another moderator group would not need to be created just to watch over one section. The current staff is taking care of moderating all of the sections just fine.

Secondly, I like the idea of having a debate forum, but I am against the idea of special masks and requirements to use the section. I think that it would just create more of a hassle for Shaggy to set up permission masks and restrictions then it is for the mods to clean up a rep or two a day. Post count doesn't necessarly add up to maturity as well and just because someone has a donator or premium account does not make them more mature then someone with a regular account.

I'd like to have one, but spammers would just ruin any debates that are on there.

I think people like Morv would ruin the forum, but I like the idea and I completely support it.

Yeah, people would just rep other people outside of forums. Forum Problems and Suggestions is a board for all that anyway.

well despite all the possible negatives I think we should be given a chance and see how it works. Maybe just set up a Debate Forum with no special requirements and just see how it goes for a week. Hopefully there won't be any incidents and it will all work out :D

Or the debate forum has a password, only way to get it is to sign a contract saying if you -rep or flame atleast one person, you will be banned fined and never welcomed back to Debates.. Oh so much work. :(

But I think the potential in this, or the positives, overwhelms the ONE negative.. repping.

Passwords can easily be given to others who don't have the password, that wouldnt work too well.

Instead of the whole permission masks mumbo jumbo, 1000 post requirement, etc, how about just making it so people who abuse the forum incur heavy penalties. I'm talking suspensions, 200 credit fines, that kind of thing. Also, while a 1000 post requirement doesn't seem right (face it, there are people with 1000+ posts who arent mature), something along the line of a 100-150 post requirement seem reasonable, because you don't want people registering, flaming, and not caring what happens as they never plan on coming back.

nooo don't let this topic die. We need a debate forum

Just give it a chance, no special requirements, and see what happens. If it is too much of a hastle for the current mods and admins then it can be taken away :)
