    Hey guys, j/w, wtf is wrong with my computer? As it is booting up, it displays a black screen with the words:

    Invalid boot.ini file
    c:/Windows/

    But then after a few seconds, it boots normaly.

    Anyone know what's up? :huh:

    EDIT: 5 inches of e-pen1s growth to anyone who knows. :)

    You have to fixboot it by using the XP CD in the Windows Recovery Console.

    Thats what I did and it worked.

    thanks! I'll give a shot when I find my XP disk.

    Any idea what caused it?

    and is it a real threat to my pc? or will it continue to run?

    I doubt it's a real threat. It happened to me and I didn't even care, but after a week or something I fixed it using the fixboot.

    Do you have 2 operating system in your computer ? Mostly, i think it is a corrupted boot.ini problem. Here is the fix to it.

    right click on my computer,
    go to properties
    click the advanced tab
    click settings which is under start up and recovery
    under system startup then click edit
    overwrite everything with the followings lines.

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    The above fix is for single operating system, and for Window XP Professional.

    Please take note : Since i do not know the detailed problem, please use the fix with your own risk.
