well my birthday is in 3 days and im going to buy a new motherboard & cpu. Im looking on newegg.com right now and i see that those new AM2 CPU's are going for really cheap as well as the old 939s. My question to you guys is, should i stick with 939 or go with AM2? Their both around 150-200 for a duel core im thinking about

    or

I would need a new motherboard too, but i havnt heard anything about AM2 yet so what would be a good motherboard also? i have around 100 bucks to spend on a motherboard. thanks in advance :)

Err, technicly in terms of preformce, they when because s939 does not support ddr2. Eitherway, i suggest the Core 2 Duos + an Asus motherboard and 2x1gb OCZ (or gskill if you have the money) ddr2-800

I'm just suggesting that. No point in buying AMD right now if you're going to have to upgrade in a few months to keep up. Better to go Intel right now, or if you prefer AMD, wait a few months for K8L

Yeah, if you get AM2 right now you dont get K8L's full support with DDR3

Although I would assume DDR3 will be quite expensive on its release, eh? I wouldn't count much on getting it on the day it comes out.

If you're looking to get a good, but cheap processor then I'd say get the new Intel Core 2 Duo E6300. It shows how much better it can perform here.

$200 isnt nessecarly cheap. $105ish would be what I consider cheap (pentium d 805, athlon 64's, etc.)

    do you realize that
AM3 procs will be out prior to AM3 motherboards and DDR3 wont' be comercially available for quite some time and at that poinbt XDR might be better, right?

my question still hasnt been answered lol! i guess im just gonna go with 939 socket.... i could care less about the future cause im probably not gonna buy a new computer anytime soon plus 939 has much better motherboards made by DFI and i know i can use my current ram with it. all i need now is windows, unless the 1 i currently have installed from emachines will work.
