I only have one installation cd, and i dont know how to use it, when i put it in my cd rom drive nothng happens....

im so clueless. i dont know what i need, a new computer, good installation cds, to reformate.

whatever i need to do, can anyone tell me the price...

and for reformating, can any one tell me how it works, ive never done it. I think you need cds, but i donmt have them, do they cost much?

Put in your Windows Installer CD.
Next go into your BIOS settings and change the boot order so the your CD/DVD drive boots first.
Then the Windows Installer will load. When your asked for 3 different options, press "r" for System Repair.

Some one else can explain it from there, as I don't fully remember what happens after that >.<

If you dont have your cd anywhere there are other options.

Do you have a spare hard drive lying around? or a friend with a pc? You can put your hard drive in that computer as a slave and run some scans to see if it was damaged badly. You can atleast get your info off the hard drive normally.

The most you would need to get is a new hard drive.

It's not booting the operating system. Good luck running System Restore.

johndapunk. whats that BIOS thingy? im stuck at that screen. I want to know how to make the cd work,

    Merged Post:

ok i pressed delete at the first operating screen, i changed my settings to BIOS mode. and now when i restart i seems to load my cd/dvd drive. but then its stops and goes back to the error screen. Im guessing i dont have the right windows 2000 installation cd.

anyone can tell me whats my best bet now. since my computer was already ----ed.. Because if i buy a windows 2000 installation cd it will probably stay like before im guessing. How about reformatting would, that work, and could i upgrade to XP?

anyone can tell me what i should do. (reformat, buy installation cds, or something else)

EDIT: BTW SORRY IF IM BEING A COMPLETE COMPUTER NEWB :s.

I'd personally suggest going for XP. I like it quite a bit more.

You can just pop the xp cd into your cd drive and upgrade to xp. do not do a clean install or else your data is gone.

This is all assuming that your hard drive didnt take a crap on you and is in opperating condition.

ok thanx for info. but if i do install in clean mode, will that delete all the info that i had on my computer. So that would be like reformatting right.

and btw how much does windows xp install cd's cost? (about)
