I suggest these. They are mainstream but aren't the new age rap, which is horrible and a disgrace to what rap used to be.

Kanye West, if you could get his Touch The Sky concert, I have it on my iPod and if yours place videos I'll send it to you converted and everything. Almoust the whole entire concert is done with pure liv string performers, it's sick.
Lupe Fiasco, His touch the sky mixtape is sick. Songs like Twilight Zone will leave your head spinning, "Jesus peices walking round with ni**as hanging from their necks."
Hieroglyphics, I've only head "make Your Move," but it's one of my favorite songs right now.
Immortal Technique, he tells stories through his rhymes and "Dance With The Devil" had my hair on end when I got done listening to it.
Tupac, one of the pioneers of Gngster rap, although some of his songs are the most influential rap songs out there, such as "Changes" and "Keep Your Head Up"
Nas and Jay-z These are my last two, I'd put them on the same page with each other. Jay-z has sick metaphors and nas has some deep and emotional songs that are still hard and gritty.

I have put in bold all the at least good rappers in their, as suggested earlier i also suggest NaS, a true rapper who has never changed his style and lyrically is one of the best rappers of all time, listen to all of his albums you will find a couple of hardcore hip hop anthems
