So today in my summer school english class we got back these tests. The teacher explained that most people got 0/10 because they answered a question wrong. She says that she asked for 'factors' that contribute to the hysteria in The Crucible and they people who got 0 just listed events. I tried to argue to her that an event can be a factor but she says no. What do u guys think, can an event be considered a factor of something different?
Does it matter what we think? It's the teacher's decision Pass the class the first time and you won't have to put up with that as much Not a flame...I too failed English, I just decided to take 2 English's this year, lol.
well actually cuz i put up a strong case she's like 'we'll continue this debate tomorrow, if ur arguements are good enough i'll give you the marks' sooo any help = good
I would think that "factors" are the things that led up the hysteria. An event is something that has already happend or is going to happen. I looked up factor in the thesaurus and event is not listed anywhere. If these two were the same there would be a synonym listed for for each. Main Entry: factor Part of Speech: noun Definition: determinant Synonyms: agency, agent, aid, antecedent, aspect, board, cause, circumstance, component, consideration, constituent, element, fixin's*, influence, ingredient, instrument, instrumentality, item, makin's*, means, part, plug in, point, portion, thing The people answering the questions were listing events that happened; not things that caused the events, which would be factors. I hope this helps.
I think events can be factors because an event is somethig that has happened or is happening and contributes to the final action. I don;t know if that made any sense but it does lol. Just meanan event can actually be quite a big contributer.
Factors are what contribute to the final outcome right? So if an event in the book plays a role in the outcome of the book (or chapter...or whatever else you think), then it's a factor.
that's her arguement, so i asked her what about those events that cause other events. She said they were AFTERMATHS. I agreed but. . . if a factor is something that contributes to the end result. Then wouldn't the event be the factor to the aftermath? and also, for the ppl who say it's the teachers choice^_^. We always have these sort of debates in class, only this time if i win it means extra marks, that i should have had in the first place... If a cop brings up some false charges, you gonna take them or are you going to challenge them. lol +++ i just checked up EVENT in the thesaurus and both CIRCUMSTANCE and FACT are other words that come up. Both of these words are in the definition of what a factor is
