Well my computer is a dell 4600, around 3 years old, I'm looking to update my graphics card, preferably comething under or near 100 dollars, it doesn't need to be extremly good, just enough to play some current games i.e bf2, my current card (nVidia GeForce 5200) can't really play any games any more, the rest of my pc's specs are ok for games, p4 2.66 Ghz 1 Gb RAM. I'm not excatly sure about what card to get or how to know if they will work with my pc.

I'm assuming AGP 4x/8x, since newegg has no PCI-E FX 5200's (nor do i think they were ever made.)

I just wouldn't advise wasting money on AGP cards anymore. They will not be supporting AGP cards for much longer, and the current prices of cards that are AGP with PCI-E counterparts are so much more expensive. I would personally save your money for a bigger upgrade.

But if you wish, the x800GTO i think is around $130-$150 on AGP, that is a possibilty.

if it has a GFX card, tehre is a possibility that the motehrboard has an AGP port...

though I wouldn't count on it. OPen up the case and tell us if there is a brown slot which is positioned higehr than the other slots(hey, you'de have to open it later anyway) if you're too lazy, everhest home edition, google name of motherboard and tell us info on it.

    on PCI
6200 is the best PCI card form what I know

on AGP x700 is 95$ish which isn't bad, compareable to a 6600GT. x800GTO is a little bit mroe and is a better bang/$ though.

if you're unable to unlock the pipelines then the 6800XT isn't THAT great... but if you are... Dayam... it really depends on the situation though, the newer PCI-e cards are usually laser locked(atleast my 780GT was) but a lot of AGP isn't. x800GTO is an excellent card regardless of being unlockable or not(which it potentially is for the record).

as for the 6200... it's standard price on newegg is 30, non-opened box. not 30 on sale... it just gets sold out fast...

I'm on the EXACT same boat as you, lol. Same computer, same age. Same graphics card (Im assuming you bought the 5200FX straight off of dell and it came with your comp, as did mine.)

I even want it for the same reasons as you... lol.

I have a question for you smart people here, and I only ask it here, because im sure ViperAFK won't mind knowing it either.

Is it worth it to get a 512mb, over a 256mb? What's the difference performance wise?
Right now i'm looking at buying http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814141026
which is a very nice price. Im just wondering if it could run BF2 with no choppiness (my 5200fx can barely even load BF2 anymore...)

And im not going to go out and buy a new mobo and other crap just for a pci, so im sticking to agp, because im going to college in 2 years, and i will be getting a new computer then.

    Thanks ;D

it really isnt worth it, especially on that card. You would rather it be 256 MB, 12 pipelines with GDDR3. that one you have chosen is 8 pipelines, gddr2. After 128mb vram, it really wont be used much more past that. If yu play FEAR, then 256mb vram would be better, but not needed. So in this case, the x800gto is a better buy then the 6800
