Okay thanks. Do you think the price of the motherboards is going to drop at all once Conroes come out? I mean, conroe compatible motherboards. Because $260 for a motherboard is a bit pricey, don't you think?

Yes, the badaXe boards are very expensive. I'm expecting more to come out towards the Conroe release, but we'll have to see.

Oh okay. I'm gonna talk to my dad about raising the spending limit to 1300 to make space for Conroe and Case, and cooling, because I plan to overclock if the Conroe is seen as a good overclocker.

You won't need anything more then stock cooling. As long as the overclock isnt much high then 3.0Ghz, stock cooling is fine.

Ok then. I assume the heatsinks required for the conroe come with the processor?

    several things to note...

within 2-3 weeks the prices on AMD's procs will eb cut by nearly/over half

Biostar TForce P965 Deluxe costs 135$(USD) and supports core 2, it OCs OK and the only downside I can find is a lack of crossfire support and the BIOS has room to improve(but wait, if it's good as is, that means that you can get a free performance boost in the future...)

    http://anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2797&p=7

after a little more research, I might very well end up getting one.

EDIT: as for conroe being a good OCer... on the tuniq tower(more ro less the best/most prefered air cooling at the moment) they(anandtech) got the lowest conroe the 6300 to 3.9GHz... stock cooling should be fine for anything moderate. My personal goal is 3.3GHz on stock cooling and stock or near stock voltage.

in short... conroe is the best OCer out there at this moment. on LN2, people can get a p4 system to 5-6GHz and a conroe to 4-5 and an athlon to 3.5-4.5 at those speeds the athlon wins a fair amount against the p4(it's klind of close though) and the core 2 utterly destroys everything(conroe is 50-120% more powerful per clock than the p4 in a typical situation, so more or less expect double the performance/GHz)

Hmmmmmm. I wonder if they have that board available on Tigerdirect or Ncix. Would all of those other parts that John suggested still work on this board?

Looks very.... colorful! LOL neon colors all over it.

EDIT: Okay.. When I get a conroe I will have to learn how to overclock, lol.

Do you think that the Conroes will be on etailers such as Tigerdirect.ca and Ncix.com like the day they come out, in 2 days? Or are companies like Dell and HP going to soak up the first few batches of them? And do you think the price of Conroes will drop much between say.. now and Christmas?

EDIT 2: That board doesn't seem to be available on Ncix or Tigerdirect :( Poo! And the board doesn't seem very expandable, with only a few PciE slots.. unless that is the norm.. WTF are the 3 PCI slots for? I thought they were old news?

    [offtopic] Xelink you would need ddr2 1000, for getting 3.3 outta a 6300, 6400 without using a divider...[offtopic]

A ''few'' PCI-E slots are ENOUGH for you. See the link in my signature for conroe compatible boards and try to find them in your shop. PCI Cards are explansion slots for soundcards, extre ethernet cards etc...

my goals are changing accordingly to my wallet's desire...

and also, you haven't seen the benchmarks showing how little memory latency matters on conroe...

ohh also, the black G. Skill DDR2-800 is the same stuff as that which is used in the official DDR2-1000 model... or atleast I've heard that...

check newegg... a lot fo people getting that ram to 900-1000 at reasonable settings...

Ok.. Ya, I looked at the link in your sig Devistation.. I just dont know which are good motherboards and which are bad motherbards... They all look the same to me.

And really, I could care less about ram latency. I dont even know what it does, and I think that anything would be better than the current stuff I have, by Dell (LOL)

Anyhoo... can somebody answer my question please? When do you estimate that Conroes will be available to the General public? Like, is big companies like Dell and HP gonna soak up the first few hundred, or would they already have the processors and just cant sell them yet?

Actually, I'm having second thoughts about the motherboard that John suggested anyway. I have been reading some reviews and stuff, which are leading me to believe that this Asus board is not compatible with Conroe.

    Read this http://forum.ncix.com/forums/index.php?mod...id=0#msg1124172

Apparently this board is missing the "PECI" compatibility, meaning that, paired with a Conroe, it won't boot. I need to find the P5W DH, as it was created specificly because Conroe was not compatible with P5WD2

So it looks more and more like I am going with Xelinks suggestion, whenever it comes out.

EDIT: I found the Conroe compatible board. Guess what! Its even more expensive that the original! LOL http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...anufacture=ASUS
