    1 gig ram
160gb sata western digital - the non workin one
20 gb ide segate - workin one

tried to repair the disk though the windows cd and i typed in chkdsk and it initally told me it was fine - so i typed chkdsk /p for the partition and then it got to 26% and told me i had one or more un recoverable errors

just reformat. its the easiest way to do it.thats what I had to do with mine. I got the blue screen of death tho. This should be a firm lesson to always back up your ---- onto a hard copy(dvd,cd, or floppies)

well great but i had a talk with an aussie girl who says to just try to rewrite the windows registery files - which i think are f-cked up as is so i'll try that - final option though to fix this is reformatting - i accept my defeat :|:|:|

Maybe a couple of your system files are corrupted. Like your .dll files or .ini files for initiallizing Windows XP. I would try to do a Windows repair first before reformatting your computer.

Wait, you have two hard drives? My god, this is too easy.

Go download a LiveOS (boots from a cd, no installation.) Burn the ISO to a CD (not a DVD) and load it on your computer. When it firsts loads, press enter to load it. When asked for a username, type root, and when asked for a password, type [/b]toor[/b] . After you have logged in, type in startx , which will load a GUI similar to Windows. Mess around with some stuff, and I think you can figure it out after a few minutes.

I would definately try a repair install first, it could just be corrupted sytem files.

i didnt read all the posts but if you get another hdd with a clean version of windows on, can you not just use that and your other hdd. Then repair, save, copy files or what ever you want
