No, you don't need anything special. Look at on the back of your Computer and find your Graphics card. It probably has 1 Analog port (blue), and 1 DVI (white). Which ever port your current monitor goes into, the secondary monitor needs to go into the other port.

What graphics card do you have? It it's low-end, it might not even support a secondary monitor. But you probably don't have that bad of one.

Yep. Most monitors are Plug N Play monitors, the name itself gives it away.

im starring at your graphics card right now on newegg and it has 1 Analog port, and 1 DVI port. To put the secondary monitor in (assuming the the secondary monitor needs to use the same port as the primary monitor), you need an adapter. You can probably find one on newegg, DVI to Analog or Analog to DVI, you can figure out which one you need.

To connect the screen via aVGA when you only have a DVI connection you will need to purchase a DVI to VGA converter. They are very common now days and not expensive, ATi has their own and they usually have them with your product (1 if not 2). They look like this:

I would suggest you buying this one, if you want to look no further:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814999201

Okay, it's not plug and play, it need to be setup. I am assuming you have ATi's CCC (Catalyst Control Center) for the thing you use. If that's the case, when you get the monitor plugged in and ready to go, go into the CCC and go to "Displays Manager."

When you get there you will see the second monitor in the position underneath your primary stating "Attatched displays currently disabled:"

All you need to do is drag that monitor to the place right beside your primary and select the method you want it to use to set it up.

Now, to set it up as the same desktop but the bar still on the main screen put "Extend Main Onto Monitor", "Clone Main with Monitor" is self explanitory really, it clones your main monitor on your other monitor. "Stretch Main Horizontally/Vertically" is self explanitory too really, it allows you to make your monitors go together, where you can stretch the start bar across each screen and programs as well.

Now, if you choose Extend you have one more thing to do, and that is: "Choose your screen point!"

As you can see from the picture below, I have the screen-placement-drag-box highlighted to make it easier. All you have to do is drag the #2 screen around to the proper location to where you would like your mouse's pointer to leave the screen to go on the next screen. For example, the way you see it right now, screen 2 is on the right, so to get onto screen 2 I would have to move my cursor past screen 1 to the right. If screen 2 was on the bottom I would have to move downward on the mouse to get to screen 2, and left, top, etc.

If you do not have ATi's CCC then you can do this same thing in Display Properties.

    Hope I helped.

Yeah, that might help it.. Update the drivers. Also, the steps are the same but go into properties by right clicking the desktop. Unless you want me to write another picture tut. lol
