alright, due to the amount of content on here i didnt read it all, my personal opinion is no matter what program or forum your on if there are limited things you should give, mine are limited to: my general area [due to the fact orange county has a few million residents, and is one of the largest and fastest growing cities in the US] my name [never last name] and my age. i also dont toss around half-naked pictures of myself saying "look at my beach parteeeee!!" eh give limited information and have a bit of common sense then you should be fine. edit: due to the fact that i have been on over 20 forums and have done graphics for so long i have over 150 people on my buddylist, over half at some piont requested a sig from me at some piont [now ive known most of them for atleast 2 years]. im still safe and have yet to be raped/hurt/anything else. but then again, no ones ever known anything more than "im female in orange county and my names ashton" [i know 3 other female ashtons here and our schools tend to have over 2000 students as an average] common sense works.
A radio station in detroit set up a fake account with a 14 year old girl to try and but some of the pervs the is the myspace: http://www.myspace.com/tiffany955 And these are the phone calls: http://2004.channel955.com/mojo_audio_downloads.html
The fact of the matter is the internet itself is not a safe place. It is up to each individual user to insure thier own saftey. I am so tired of seeing yound dumb girls exposing themselves on myspace and doing everything they can to get attantion. One of my best friends sister posted an almost nude picture of herself with all of her info and was not just pestered by strangers, she was molested by a boy she knew at school. I think MySpace should not be what it has turned into and be for what its original intention was, getting bands' names out in the public eye.
If you read the rules, they always tell you not to put anything you wouldn't want a stranger to see; nothing personal. If they do that, they won't be in an unsafe situation.
As Dementia said, you are as safe as you allow yourself to be. If anyone remembers the Jamie Bolyn story, that hit close to home for me because I live 30 miles away. MySpace got the bad rap, but they lived less than 10 feet from each other. Now, I do have a MySpace, but I watch what I post. I know people who have posted their numbers and other sensitive information on their profile, for anyone to see. People say, "Hey, why can't we make it where you HAVE to be a certain age to sign up for MySpace's serveices?" Well, for one how would you verify age without some sort of process, such as a credit card or other means? You can't. MySpace is just like every other site where people get together; it's nearly impossbile to confirm someone's age... MySpace just always gets the rap. That's the honest truth.
Yeah, Myspace is safe. It's the people who put their information up willingly to the public that make themselves un-safe.
This is an example of how this kind of stuff is safe. Even on myspace you are safe, the only information people can find out about you on there is the info that you post for them to read.
