On one of my computers my internet speed was horribly slow so i decided to take a test on www.dslreports.com/stest.

I thought this was kinda wierd so I decided to try it on my other computer. (This computer has worse specs it is a P3 @ 450 Mhz while the other is an Athlon at 700 Mhz)
On my Athlon computer I have also been having troubles with it. Recently it has been shutting off for no reason, I thought it might be the CPU or Video Card fan so I replaced them but with no luck. Also when I could get it on for a long enough period of time to use the internet it just wouldnt start.

Is there anyway I can fix how this runs so my Athlon can match my P3 computer's speed?

for your network, it could be that:

your ethernet cable is worn, bent, or you see bare or the outer rubber from the wires themselveswire

your ethernet port (nic) on your computer, rather onboard, or on a pci card, is going bad.

    for your computer:

check for viruses and spyware. If you're using Norton or McAfee, ditch it, get Avast or AVG..

for spyware, get Ad-aware, and Spybot Search and Destroy. And if you want a good trial, get Ewido, which will detect and delete all..

That was the second thing I did after I got it up, ran AVG and Adaware.

Im going to try Ewido and Im going to try to swap ethernet cables even though the one on my P3 is chewed up by my dog lol. I think its my ethernet card that is messed up, looks like ill have to go buy a new one tomarrow.

alright, Jimbo, sounds quite funny with your dog.. now you can really say the dog ate your homework, if it included the internet...

but, when you get a ethernet card, it should be less than 10 bucks, the higher priced ones are for servers and other things, find the cheapest, and that should be fine...

Find a nice Cat5E Cable for your connection. That should work just fine. Trying to get a Cat6 for more performance would be a waste.
