no, not all. some viruses are known to screw you over big time, where your only option is a reformat..

let's put it this way.. Avast, a free antivirus, can kill MOST viruses..

most of them, it finds before it can be execued (ran)

yeah mcafee is like that... so is prevX... AVG is good enough to tell you what you have... and if you're encountering files that say they have no viruses but you can't delete them/rename them/move them download this program called Unlocker... ...but uhh... yeah there are viruses out there you can't get rid of... I've heard people say they've had spreading viruses follow them after a format... don't ask me how... just passing along what i heard.

    download unlocker 1.7 here..http://www.9down.com/story.php?sid=6013

    EDIT:

.:PeeWee:. your sig kicks so much ass.... i'm listening to SFJG right now.. good stuff... love this "jump bitch" song, heh

    RIP Proof....

Not sure how a virus would remain after a reformat unless you do a reformat that leaves some files and if the virus happened to be in one of those files then maybe.

well, if the virus was left on sector 0, or on mbr, it could, even after a reformat... but a low-level format should fix that up..

I reccomend getting alot of free removials, such as spybots, search and destroy, Avast!, Spyware Docter, Microsoft Antispyware, AVG free edition. I have all of them, if one doesn't remove it, I use another. Very helpful.

or if he just redownloaded the same infected file after a reinstall...
I had a friend who saved all his files on a second hard drive and reinstalled windows on his original thinking he would be virus free lol

No it can't. Some viruses can't even be detected with every virus scanner in the world. If you are good in visual basic you can make one that deletes all hard drive info and stuff but i'm not telling you how to do it.
