the us government is considering making it legal to turn the us flag, such as in freedom of speech. many think it is wrong to burn a symbol of america. what is your point of view?

Well, it's freedom of speech, so it's protected under the constitution. And we can't just make sumtin ilegal if it's protected just bc we don't like it.

Personally, i don't like the idea of flag burning, esp. the American flag, but if it's protected (which under the 1st ammendment, it is), it would be against everything this country stands for if it were made illegal.

I'm for it. I'm Canadian, and the one thing I hate about Canada Day is the Quebecers burning/destroying the Canadian flag. It makes me sick.

I wish they made this law in Canada.

I think Americans shouldnt burn their own flag ... what kind of message does that send ? sure we might not like our government but there are other less illegal ways to deal with it

the ability to say and do what we want, within certain limits, is what separates this country from the rest of the world. I may not agree with the message it sends, but it is perfectly within peoples' rights to do if thats what they wanna do.

Exactly, if we want to be different from everyone else and give total freedom, we can't go against our own rules that would be retarded

actually, the proper disposal of the United States flag is to burn it.

Spoken like a true pyro, and ignorant teenager. Yes, it is the proper disposal to burn a United States flag if its worn out, or has touched the ground - but this is not to be done by you without following certain procedures. Its 'recommended' you take it to the nearest National Guard base or reserve.

In my opinion, you do not bite the hand that feeds you. United States is a democracy and does have freedrom of speech, but it needs to be controlled. I have many freedroms, and the right to do whatever I please with them, but i cannot go outside and kill a person. The reason for this is simple, you have freedrom of speech untill it endangers or hurts another American. Flag burning does that; not only are you burning a national symbol, but your destroying and showing lack of national pride.

Burning a flag doesn't endanger anyones life (unless the fire gets out of control), I think burning a flag is the ultimate expression of freedom of speech and THAT is truly American.

    Let us burn flags.

And I still see a lack of connection when you say burning a flag endangers another person, unless your talking about raging fires which is unlikely.

    Burning a flag is lame..

    1. You're burning your own flag you twat.
    2. It just shows how low someone can go..
    3. It shows that that you have no other way of expressing yourself.

Its lame, lots of people burn the american flag for example.. but i'm sure 99% of flagburning people don't hate EVERYBODY from america, that would be insane and wrong.
