I think those pads have some kind of a dip to them, so the mouse can go much more smoothly, but its really not needed..

depends on your needs, personally I don't see a need for such a great pad unless you have no life and game 24/7 also you'de spend your money better on a real mouse as compared to a pad.

yeah and the more expensive ones usualy are more comfortable for your wrists, there are different ones for your needs, you can have big ones (2 foot by 2 foot lol) or small ones, wide ones, soft ones, leather ones

all personal prefference, but the foam ones get the job done

I have a 10 buck steel pad, its very nice. Provides a very good, smooth surface. My mouse just glodes over it.

And its really easy to clean too, just run a damp cloth over basically. I dont need to worry about getting the bottom of my mouse obnoxiosuly dirty.

There are two piece mouse sets. I have a gaming mousepad and mine has a hard, slick surface that you can keep clean and the mouse just glides... the top part is the hard part and there is a bottom, grip layer. Like, if you take it out (they fit perfectly, one inside another) then you can see what I mean. I might provide a picture in a second actually. It also came with a device that holds your cord so that it doesn't get snagged while playing games. I thought "Who would need that" but, when I had a corded mouse, MAN did it ever help.

Also, the hard surface makes it more slick and if you have a laser or optical mouse (BIG DIFFERENCE THERE BUDDY) then it keeps your lens the perfect distance off of the pad (because it sinks down into a soft, cloth mouse pad). The reason that I say "the perfect distance" is because, when you have those things (slider things... the slick pads on the bottom) it lifts it up to a certain point... NOT very high.. just perfect.

This is the best pic I can get you:

My mousepad was like...maybe 5$ and it works fine, no need to pay 50$ for one.

I dont even have a mouse mat, my keyboard and mouse sit on the desk and it has a smooth layer on the table which i find just as good if not better than a mat.
