Okay heres how to utilize your hd space as virtual RAM. It will take around 1 gig of space but its worth it as it really speeds up your computer Note: I do not reccomend this if you got less than 20gb hard drive space. Okay first hold down the windows key (its the key with a little window flag on it nearl alt and ctrl. Then press Pause/Break button it should be in the top right hand corner of your keyboard. A new screen should come up click on the advanced tab. Then go performance and under that go on settings. Then find virtual memory at the bottom and click change. Then click the custom size button. Now for the initial size this depends on how much space on your hd you have but i reccomend 1000-1500 for the mininum and for the maxium i say about 2000-2500 if it is already in these ranges you could maybe stretch further. Click set then close all your windows including browsers programs everything. Then restart your computer. Then when you next log in you should notice programs appear quicker and its much smoother . I hope this will help people Please Note: Im sorrie if this has been posted before but im sure theres people who might not of heard it
Its because when you do this it takes some of your hd space so if you have a small amount it will probaly make your computer run slower as there is less space for it to run on see what i mean and i say 20gb thats just a guide line you could prob stretch to 10-15 but its at your own risk
good thing i have like 137GBs left out of 200 i will try this once i here what people say btw will this make ur drive want hotter
This is actually very smart. i didnt know about this feature. I was going to do it but my computer is already set at about 1500 - 3000 so i decided against it. i have plenty of hard drive left though so if my computer starts running slow, i know what to do now thanks to you! this is a great guide!
no problem im just here to help and computer kidd when you say: "will it make your computer want hotter" do you mean will it make your computer over heat cos of the changed to the hd. The answer either no or sometimes you might notice when it loads up it might be a bit louder than normal put when you get it started its normally okay... well its okay for me anyway
this essentially dillutes your ram with your slower harddrive. typically windows has it automanaged for "optimal performance" which is fairly effective. if you have enough ram(2GB and up) it detracts from performance more than it adds. if you have 1GB, having it set to 512mb-1.5GB depending on useage(or system managed) works well if you have about 1.5-2GB or up, just disable it, only negative side effect I've seen is photoshop gives you a warning message saying it's optimal to use it,which in such a scenario(if you have a ----load of ram) is innacurate. I'the only changes i would make would be disablingg it form your primary drive and setting it to secondary and tertiary drives if applicable(eg: you have more than 1HDD, don't set it to the drive with the OS and games) EDIT: it wil make the drive hotter in theory and practice, but if heat is an issue with your drive you'de want to look into a new one because starting windows, opening large fiels and programs etc. are all harder on your drive than this.
Once I turn it on is there any way I can reclaim the harddrive space by turning it off? If so, how? EDIT: , I just realised I already had it set from a previous tutorial that did this.. I had it set to about 4800mb, or 4.8gb B) Now I know where all my damn harddrive space is going.
Lol yeah im guessing thats where its all gone but 4800mb what you running ive kept mine to 1500 and 2500 and thats okay for me so thats why i used that as the guide lines in the tutorial
I made a video tut around here bout this a while ago.. too bad I deleted it Now no one else can hear my sexy voice
