Ok well within the next 2 weeks, I'm getting a RAM upgrade for my computer. Probably a 1GB RAM upgrade. The type of ram is PC2100, now my question is that I already have 256mb of RAM (according to my computer) in place. With that in mind, can I if I have the open DIMM slots that is, use the 2 128mb RAM sticks with the 1GB stick?

Depends how many slots your PC has.

    As said, it depends.

Most computers have a limit, wich i think is 2GB or 4GB.
My computer, has a limit that reaches to 2GB, and i cant
    go above that.

But im definate that you're PC will allow it, no problem.

I'll answer you question, with a direct answer.

"With that in mind, can I if I have the open DIMM slots that is, use the 2 128mb RAM sticks with the 1GB stick?"

    Yes.

In the future though you might want to get rid of those 128mb sticks and upgrade in those slots too because 128mb is just a waste of a slot IMO.

Yah I know what your saying, Its just I only have enough for one right now. So basically, If I had 3 slots is it also safe to assume my maximum limit is 3GB?

    it depends on the chipset.

most AMD boards spec they are capable of running "only" 4GB, but in reality can run 8GB(good luck finding 2GB DDR DIMMs though)

check the motherbaoord to be sure.
I doubt you have an a64 aso so dual channel shouldn't be an issue

another question. are you using rambus ram? if so the 1GB module won't work, and rambus is so expensive you might as well just toss the motherboard and CPU alltogether and get a new one(for the price diference)

I have a Pentium 4, my computer runs amazing even though its closes to 4 years old. It runs brand new jsut needs a minor upgrade to boost speed. Also whats rambus ram?

the memory controller for p4s is on the motherboards chipset, the processor has nothing to do with it, furthermroe,w hy the hell idd you get a p4 in 2002? it wasn't until mid-late 2003 that they could even compare to an athlon[or even e PIII](not enough GHz to make up for low IPC and pipeline latency and branch errors) and even then that only lasted about a year.

rambus ram is an old type of ram based on high clock speeds and high latencies. it's rediculously expensive. and doesn't perform that well anymore(compared to DDR and DDR2). if your p4 is 4 years old it's likely using a chipset running rambus[normal sd and DDR chipsets didn't come out for a while] and you're essentially ----ed.

PC2100 RAM? That's really old. You won't find anymore (unless you get lucky) PC2100 RAM. You won't want it anyway. The new DDR 800 RAM or w/e would probably be just as much. It probably will, but just hope that the RAM underclocks automaticly to your Nothbridge's allowable RAM frequency. I would suggest getting a whole new everything tho... What motherboard and processor you got?

oops im a retard, didn't see your post, yeah PCI 21000 refers to DDR, so you are most definately OK(run CPUz just to be sure, tell us the clock speeed,[mhz] on the ram) http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

and yes pretty much any DDR modul should work, though again chipset is what matters, yours might only facilitate 512MB or 256MB DIMMs seeing as 1GB DIMMS didnt' exist at the time.
