Ive tried to play games like that on my 2.66 Ghz P4 and Nvidia GeForce 5200, 1.5 GB of RAM, didn't run smoothly at all.
I averaged about 20-30 FPS (playable to some, not to others) doing that on DoD: Source. The only differences from my laptop and his was that i had 256 of ram but a 3 Ghz P4.
You can run the games fine 512 RAM. But there a few things that depend on being able to run the game with 512 MB. To run the game with 512 you need a good GFX card and a good processer. Without that and 512 RAM you cant run it.
It all depends on those factors, yes. but as the thread starter has a crappy P4 and onboard video, I would guess that it would be nothing but crap.
how much can you pay in total for a new gfx card, processor, and motherboard. I'm assuming your motherboard is not LGA775, but rather a Socket 478. You can check what you have with CPU-Z, but you will probably need a new motheboard because that one probably doesn't support 800 Mhz FSB. CPU-Z: http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-134.zip
well if i got a new cpu and gfx card wouldent that be like getting a whole new pc? and would i still have all my files and my account?
you should just be able to do a repair setup, which does not touch your personal files. It only reinstalls system files, and re-registers it with your new board/cpu.
I can run the programs fine..but my system is a little more updated than yours.. I have a 2.66GHz P4, 512MB of RAM, and a 128MB NVIDEA Geforce. Not the best..but it gets the job done. I plan on getting a new computer after the release of Vista. I'd see about picking up a graphics card at one of your local computer stores, and see if that helps any. -DDL-
windows XP pro 64 is more or less the same as vista, but without some eyecandy. Same base. wait until conroe or k8L before buying any hsardware if possible. tot eh guy looking to play source, just overclock your proc, and get a new GFX card. fin
every thing is on high except my resolution, and that is one better than the default on steam, thats because i have a 23" monitor, which slows down my fps
jsut overclock your PCU and then ttell us if you have an AGOP slot and we can reocomend a cheap card.
Your size of your monitor has nothing to do with your FPS. It's the lag time of your monitor that would cause extra lag.
