Yep I was about to download Vista however I was thinking lets wait for the full release

The Beta would cause problems and crappyness - Still in the phase of removing bugs [prbably plenty of them]

which version he chooses is entirely dependant on which version of vista he installed...

I realize... but about 94% certain he has x64 and it depends on components.

Actually, the problem with his video card not working in Vista is because the 7800 model cards are not Vista built-in ready. Only the following:

    GeForce 7300, 7600, 7900 & 7950 models

technically there is no such thing as x64...

x86 refers to the architecture used bu intel in it's 80286, 80386, 80486 etc. processors the xbeing there to represent a variable. more or less it's an outline for what must be done...

x86_64 is an extension upon x86 by AMD which allows information to be processed in 64 bitch chunks while still mantaining the fundamental x86 architectual aspects.

essentially most OSes used by the mainstreme are 16/32 bit where as vista comes in varieties of 32/64 and 32/16

actually the 7800GTs, GS, and GTXs are supported, they have the same architecture as the others just with mroe ---- enabled than the lower cards and are built on 120nm as opposed to 90nm. he has the mobile version which apparently uses diferent drivers due to BS involving heat dispension and the like.
