Lately i've been having some issues with my PC: certain programs crashing, Windows giving weird error messages. So just yesterday i reinstalled Windows and scanned it with Webroot's Spy Sweeper (which found and eliminated a trojan). Thinking i was safe to connect to the internet (i had no antivirus installed yet, that incredibly stupid of me), i did, in order to see which antivirus i should get. While i was looking on the web for a recommendation of an antivirus i check on the Windows Task Manager -> Processes and find all kinds of weird named programs running, some of them using a LOT of memory, making my computer run very slow. So the question if, which of the following antiviruses would you think is the best: 1. Clam Antivirus The antivirus i used right before i reinstalled Windows. It updated often, yet it never detected any virus on my pc. 2. Norton Antivirus I tryed installing this one after the Windows reinstallation and it gave me two nice errors in the process. But it found a w32 trojan on svchost (which he couldn't remove) 3. Panda Antivirus I used this one for a long time and it looked pretty efficient 4. Kaspersky Antivirus Only used this for a day or two, can't really say how good it is 5. BitDefender Same as the above So which one of those do you think is the best? PS: If you have any other suggestions on any other programs (trojan finders, adware/spyware removers, etc) that would be useful, i'd be very grateful.
You know, I always have, and always will be a fan of Nod32 Sure, it has a terrible GUI, but the thing has never let me down. And geez, there is an update out practically every 2 minutes.....talk about determination!
I agree with the top two posts. -Avast or AVG is better than any you posted above. -I get a virus update fron Nod32 about once a day... nice..
I'd have to agree with AVG, never used any of the others but why not give them all a go One I use personally is McAfee but it's the enterprise version. I've heard that the personal version is pretty good as well. Just steer clear of Symantec whatever you do
Well, in the end i had to do a COMPLETE harddisk formatting. The reason was, as Avast showed, the virus called win32.jeefo.a that infected around 40% of all the .exe files on my computer, making it impossible to recover them. After reinstalling windows i got Nod32 and performed a full scan. It found around 20-25 items that were "locked". I don't know exactly what that means, but does anyone have any idea on how to unlock them so that the antivirus can scan them? Also, a new problem emerged. My browser windows (explorer and internet ones) are moving slow. I don't mean that they react slow to certain commands, just that they move slow when i drag them around, and also when i scroll. Until now i went to other forums as well and installed the following recommended software: Ad-Aware SE Professional Spybot - Search and Destroy System Mechanic 4 (which automatically installed Kaspersky Antivirus + Kaspersky Anti-hacker) Nod32 Antivirus ewido Kerio Professional Firewall
its nice to be able to test all the AV's, but ultimately, the only thing to fix it is by doing a full format, and start fresh... backup everything to cd/dvd, of course..
Yea... except the backup part. My computer was too screwed because of that damn virus that i could barely open My Computer and start Nero. It didn't even detect my CD-Rom when i did though. Anyone have any idea on what to do concerning the windows being so slow?
