no i really don't see why so many ppl badmouth the pixel stretch, i think sometimes it adds a great effect to the sig, granted it is a rather beginner technique.. but its still a good technique nonetheless... what you all think

The reason for badmouthing it would be because it is very overused. So many beginners use the pixel stretch as a base for a tag or signature. Sure, it's effective, but it's so unoriginal.

I agree with the original poster. I'm sorry, but almost every tag you see these days can be considered 'whored' or 'overused.' People forget that the whole idea of these signatures is to express your current feelings/appreciation for different subjects, and that you can use whatever technique you think is appropriate to make such statements. What pixel stretch was a year ago, tech/abstarct/grunge brushing was, and now c4d/blur-lighten is today. To dismiss a piece just because of the techniques used is juvinile and shows a lack of respect for the creator. Some of the best 'tags' I've seen have used 'whored' styles, and I have no problem with that whatsoever. Judge a piece on it's merits. Does it look like it conveys the feelings the artist tried to reflect? Is the style representative of the subject matter? If so then I say use whatever effects you can to get that message across.

There have been countless artistic styles presented throughout history: Cubism, Realism, Expressionism, Romanticism, etc. And countless works in each style have become 'classics.' Appreciate the art, not the method. ^_^
Every technique used is another style the author can add to his/her repitoir, and leads to growth of the artist as a whole. ^_^

Why not? If a digitally created wallpaper or photograph manipulation is, why not sigs? Anything is Art if you say it is, just not always good art.

I have to argue with this.

Sigs are art. How you use them is art. You try and make a signature in the most appealing way, much like an artist will want to make his work appeal to others.

As SnakeEye said. They can also convey feelings. With a signature you can make sharp hard colors to convey anger. And soft cool colors for sad or indifferent.

But before getting into all of this. Signature making is an art style. Hell just taking a picture of a landscape can be considered art.

a sig is a piece of art because we all make it art by having galleries online, like was said they convey feelings as well as a creative outlet... if taking a photograph of a person or a flower or a car is art, then a sig is no different that any of those..

as for the overwhoreness of styles used in sigs, well technically everyone other than the person who orginated it would be guilty of overwhoring something.. that goes for renders styles and everything...

its like the render of cloud from final fantasy VII Advent Children.. this render is considerded overwhored but its an awsome render and just seeing the different ways it gets used is cool...

by definition signatures are art. nothing else need be said

    NOW THEN!

whatever looks nice and gets your piont through, there is no way to be fully original, nothing has truly never been done or thought of, so as long as it looks nice and you can do it well then go for it :D that goes for any art or photoshop effect

we could say that people are over used in pictures and that makin g people in them is unoriginal, but there are so many differnt ways to show them, hopefully my pionts getting through

i totally agree, i think we are on the frontier of a new art form here, since digitally created art is a fairly new artform as compared to others such as photography, drawing and painting...

I agree that signature IS art. I dont see any reason why it wouldnt be art. And to topic, I used pixel stretch also when i was beginner. I dont see reason to badmouth it, though I have seen hardly any professionals use it. It may add cool effect when used correctly.

You could say that Paintings get whored too!!

For example, how many people in the world have used Vangoughs style? TONS!! How many people painted Frescos during the Rennosance?! TONS!!

    FGS, everything has trends.

Well it looks like crap for one if u just do that.
    It's cheap and easy also
    very un-orignal

To Lord tho, ur sig is allright, cuz you add more filters/details and such to it.

anyway, pixel stretch is the overall worst style I remember being around GR>.

i personally don't use pixel stretch anymore because i learned new stuff, but i still think for a beginner who is just starting out with something like photoshop.. the pixel stretch is a good base technique that can be combined with other things to make some cool effects...

thnx for the good word on my sig
