Okay... how *HARD* is it to really get into a GOOD U? Because.. I really want to go to the States because I don't really have much thoughts about staying here in Canada but I have no American citizen and I don't think I'm going to get a full scolarship even if I work my butt off... I'm only in Gr.9 right now, but... I want to think ahead, I've been hit with many problems lately and I'm thinking.. if I want to turn around now, I'll have to have plans first. So.. is it worth it to go to the States or should I just stay in Canada and get a degree here and then maybe have some luck in getting a job in the states.. oO; All opinions are helpful, just want to see what you guys think about my current situation.
Im not quite sure how american companies look at canadian colleges. . . If you are thinking about getting a job here in the states then i would suggest going to college here in the states. There are alot of colleges that you might need full scholorships to get into, but i dont know your finacial backounrd. If your planning on trying to get into an american college do alot of extra curricular activies(sports clubs etc) because thats what alot of colleges are looking for. If you do that and get good grades, you can probably get a few scholorships(some cheap ones, but scholorships none the less) and it would also make getting into the college of your choice alot easier. Good luck in the future
Ontario There are 'good' Universities here, I just don't think that these U's will get me where I want to be at. I want to go into Law, these U's are mostly engineering..
university of alberta is a very famous one in canada imo and university of calgary...never heard much feedback of that place but studies say that calgary has a land mass as big as New York and will keep explanding PAST toronto so....
Well it really depends on how smart you are in school and with common sense. In the English section they'll give you a multiple choice question where you look at a sentence and determine weather which choice is correct. One MAY look correct to you but it could turn out to be some totally different answer. But yes, if your good in math you may not have a challenge....same with the English section. Like I said it all depeds on how well you have been taught through the lower grades until the present time.
If you plan on taking the SATs then you can always take the PSATs in order to prepare for them. They're the practice SATs for people that aren't ready to take the SATs yet. I think going to college in the US would be beneficial because it opens up a lot more opportunities later on. I'm sure Canadian places will still accept an American diploma just as easy as an American place would accept an American diploma.
You hit a good point, but the fact that if I have to haul my ass and study my ass off.. it may not be worth it.. I've been 'enjoying' too much of my free time, I rarely do my assigned work until the last minute and have many uncomplete stuff, the thing about highschool and junior high is the fact there are no deadlines.. there's just one big DEAD date, if you don't hand it in before the DEAD date you just get a 0.. I've been using that to my advantage way too much, are there ways to help stop the 'gaming' urge.. or 'forum' urges
The SATs aren't hard if you're prepared, though I took the old SAT, I dunno about the new one with the writing exam and all. I got a 1430 on my SAT, and had a 4.9W (4.0 uw.) GPA. 31 on my ACT. I was accepted at NYU, so I'll be starting there for a degree in Criminal Justice, then I'll be applying to Cornell Law, and from there I'll apply to Harvard Law for my final degree. None of it is really hard if you set your mind to it.
Im in Canada. Im sure you can land a job in the states, with Canadian degrees. Otherwise im screwed. Anyways, marks wise you'll need at least 85% average. Requirements are like 70's, 75's, but since everyone wants to get in, they up the requirement. Im going to the U of A, cuz i live in edmonton, plus it has one of the best medicine programs
The school near my house is the BEST.. medical school.. in Canada... well... it was.. maybe it's changed oO; My parents are forcing me to stay here and attend the school, even if it's not the strongest at law, which is pretty lame. An 85 average to get to the states? Yeah right, half the people in the states don't even know Canada is above USA.
Hey, where you from in Ontario? I was actually planning to apply for a uni in the states as well but i'll still have to think about it.
